Why Can You Recognize a Porsche at a Glance? – A Study of Design Combining Functionality and Beauty

Mr. Shuichi Yamashita’s Perspective

In fact, Porsche’s management places great importance on design. Shuichi Yamashita, Porsche AG’s exterior designer (the Japanese designer responsible for the Panamera Sport Turismo’s design), said in an interview:

“What sets Porsche apart is the extremely strict demands from management regarding design. Especially in management meetings where top executives and designers gather, even the smallest body line is discussed and sometimes rejected.”

The reason you can instantly recognize a Porsche is because everyone involved in design, including management, understands the importance of Porsche’s design and protects it no matter how much times change.

Is the Panamera’s Design Like a ●●● Drowned Corpse?

That said, Porsche’s design has also faced criticism. Jeremy Clarkson, the main host of the hugely popular BBC car show “Top Gear” until 2015, said:

“Sometimes I wonder if Porsche even has designers.”

“The Cayenne, like much of Porsche’s lineup, isn’t very well designed. It’s as ugly as a badger carcass that died two weeks ago.”

“The Panamera’s design looks like a drowned 911.”

He was brutally critical… (laughs)

Porsche’s design is the result of balancing two elements—“functionality” and “beauty”—at a high level, and personally, I find it very beautiful. I’m really looking forward to Porsche’s future evolution. (Why so condescending? lol)
