Test Drive of Porsche 718 Cayman GT4RS|Let's show you the performance of the GT4RS.

Among the new Porsche cars in recent years, I personally am very interested in the new Porsche models, and that is...718 Cayman GT4RSIt is. In the meantime, I have placed an order, but the production quota seems to be quite small and I have almost given up (laugh).

This time, I had the opportunity to test drive the 718 Cayman GT4RS and would like to report on the test drive.

718 Cayman GT4RS

The highest grade of Cayman, and the grade that further enhances the performance of that GT4.becomes.

It is distinct from the half-baked sport-tailored models of other manufacturers. The heart of the car is not the 4-liter engine found in the GTS4.0 and GT4, but theThe 4-liter racing engine of the GT3 is directly appropriated and placed in the midship.

Hood is real carbon

The engine output boasts 500 hp. The suspension also follows the design concept of the 911 GT3 RS (991.2) in terms of spring rate and damping system settings.PASM is 30mm lower than the standard specificationThe front lid has a NACA air intake for brake cooling, the rear has a swan-neck wing, and the engine air intake box has been moved into the car.Newly developed air filter produces a low, thick in-car soundIt is.

Even though the GT4 has specifications that would make it a viable racing car, "Let's take it this far.It is truly a racing car that can be driven on public roads, with so much added equipment that it makes one think, "This is a racing car that can be driven on public roads.

When you start to run

When the engine is started, a wild sound echoes through the car.Startup sound almost the same as GT3 because the engines are the same. The engine position is immediately behind the car, so it feels even more powerful. If it is different, the engine position is immediately behind, which makes it feel even more powerful.

It starts with the PDK selector, which looks like a shift lever on a manual transmission, in D mode. But that is not enough to move the GT4RS forward.PDK is the same as GT3, etc., with no creep phenomenon. The car is being driven. Therefore, it is necessary to blow a little on the accelerator pedal to start the car.

GT3-compliant suspension excluding tire house gaps

The car takes off and leaves the parking lot. So far, the feeling is deceptively normal: the GT4RS picks up speed, not with the intense tire contact of the 992 Carrera or 992 GT3, but rather with a slightly milder feel.

Cruise first at a town speed of about 30 km/h to 50 km/h. The speed is about 30 km/h to 50 km/h at town speed. This is, surprisingly, a normal driving experience. My first impression is that the "M" is the most important thing in the world.

I can see that the foot is a little firmer than the GT4, but that is not to say that the feel is significantly different. Where the road surface is flat, it is usually comfortable.

The engine noise at low RPMs resonates firmly through the cabin and does not suddenly feel quieter after starting off due to recent noise regulations. In the case of this car, the sound is louder and more powerful, especially with the windows closed. I think this is because the engine itself is inside the car and the air intake is also inside the car.

How is it handled?

As my body becomes accustomed to the car, I increase the pace a little and check the cornering performance with PASM in normal mode.

The response at the start of steering is surprisingly gentle.Of course, it is sharper than the regular Cayman model, but compared to the 991 and 992 GT3, it is a bit of a letdown. Even though this may be due to the difference in the engine mounting position, the 992 Carrera S Cabriolet with PASM sports suspension that I drove on the same day of this test drive felt sharper.

This is easy to drive, in a good way.It is a high-performance extension of the regular Cayman model, and can be driven with a relaxed, easy-going driving style, and can be used for relaxing winding roads.

However, the title of RS is not a date. The sense of stability and treading while cornering is tremendous. It is impossible to measure its limits on public roads, and it turns every corner with aplomb.

Perhaps it is at very high speeds, where more downforce is effective, that it really comes into its own.

In Japan's so-called "mountain passes," the car gives the impression of turning simply on the basis of suspension settings and capabilities, and it is clear that it is not showing its true potential at all.

Furthermore, when PASM is set to Sport mode, it becomes distinctly firmer. The car can clearly feel the unevenness from the road surface, and responsiveness and turning performance are further enhanced. Many Porsche PASM models have little difference between normal and sport mode, but for this GT4RS, I think the difference is quite large.

For the record. In Japan, if you don't bring it to the circuit, its performance is completely meaningless. It is truly a treasure trove. This is not an exaggeration, but I really believe so. If you are fortunate enough to purchase a GT4RS, I hope you will drive it on a circuit. I think that would be the happiest thing for this car.

PDK in the electric light

One of the most notable points of this car is the high performance of PDKThe first is.

Originally, Porsche's transmission called PDK shifted very quickly and with little shift shock. I have personal experience with many different cars.Without a doubt, the best transmission in the world.I think.

The PDK has been further refined in the GT4RS.

When driving in AT mode, the car downshifts with such perfect timing that you wonder if it is watching the curve ahead. It downshifts with such exquisite timing that you would think the car is watching the curve ahead, and then switches gears with great sharpness. The way it switches from one to the other is just like the world of racing games. The first is.

The excitement is further amplified when the car is set to manual mode and operated with paddle switches. In particular, the PDK in the GT4RS has a smoother downshift control, and the speed of the gearshift is impressive.

From fourth to third to second gear, two quick pulls of the paddle switch on the left side, and without a pause, "Von! Phong! the flat-six engine howls briefly and completes the downshift in a lightning-fast manner. I have never experienced such speed before. I can assure you that no supercar, no matter how expensive, can match this control.

The PDK is so wonderful that I would like to describe it as "I could eat three bowls of white rice with just the PDK. Some people have lamented the fact that the GT4RS is not available with a manual transmission, but I urge those people to try it for themselves. You will find out that you can't get the best out of this car if you are too lazy to operate it manually.
