Reviews & Test Rides

I'll drive a Toyota Crown Athlete in place of a Porsche Boxster.

Toyota Crown Athlete

The other day, when I took my Boxster GTS in for its one-year service, the loaner carToyota Crown AthleteIt was. My husband took the Boxster to the dealer that morning, where he rented a Crown, and then returned the Crown that day and drove the Boxster home, so I couldn't ride it, but I decided to ask my husband what he thought of it when he got home.

Incidentally, the Crown we rented as a loaner car was the previous generation 210 series.Crown Athlete Hybrid GThis is a model called

But when my husband came home that day, he never talked to me about the crown.Crown, how did you do it!I asked him, "What do you mean?" and he said something like this.

Ahhh...the Crown.... It's a better car than I imagined. It's really relaxing to drive around town. Stress free. I think it's a good car for just moving around town on Japanese roads, or driving on congested highways.

I see... But...Crown Athlete, so it is sportier than a plain Crown.I guess that's what it means," I said.

I guess so.My legs were tighter than I associate with crowns.In. I think it's a really good balance in terms of suspension hardness. So even though I am an athlete, I was totally comfortable on the street.
However.Changing lanes on the highway was a little scary.Nah. It was perfectly fine for driving straight, but when I changed lanes a bit agilely at a pace that would allow me to lead the overtaking lane, it was honestly scary. It was like the front end changed direction, then the rear end followed a beat or two later, and the shaking back was huge.
It doesn't run as crisply as a European car.

He said.

What about the engine? I asked, "It looks like a hybrid.

In terms of the engine and hybrid system, I think it has a lot of power. But, I'm not sure if you're going to be able to get the best of thatPower seems to be less than the numbers. For one thing, the transmission is a CVT, so the feeling of running on empty is not so great. The engine and motor are revving up, but not at all in proportion to the speed.is pretty disconcerting to me.
In addition, the needle of the power meter on the left side of the meter goes up and down in an exaggerated manner. If this were a tachometer, the needle would go up and down frequently to about the red zone. However, the movement of the needle does not match the acceleration or speed of the car at all.
I know it's just a matter of getting used to it.The visuals didn't match the speed and G's, which made it uncomfortable until the end.So I felt like the car had no power, and I ended up stepping on the gas pedal more than I should have.

I see...just listening to my husband, I could imagine "that would be uncomfortable...".
