Test Drive of the Porsche 718 Cayman and 718 Boxster T: What's different about the 718 "T"?

718 Boxster T

On the same day, I drove a 718 Boxster T. I did not know much about what kind of car the 718 T was. I drove the 718 Boxster T without knowing much about what kind of car it was, but I was surprised to find out that it was a 718 Boxster T,Grade GTS chassis with base 2-liter engineIt would be easier to understand if we say.

Not available on the base 718 is the Sport PASM (20 mm down from stock), Sport Chrono package, 20-inch wheels, and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) including a mechanical rear differential lock.

I was curious to know how it would differ from the base 718 Cayman. I got into the Boxster T while suppressing my curiosity.

The starting sound is not particularly different from that of the 718 Cayman.

Put PDK in D range and try to leave the parking lot. Then, there is already a clear difference in feeling here.Compared to the base 718 Cayman, it is noticeably lighter and smoother.Just a few dozen meters of driving is all it takes to notice the total difference. I was surprised at how much difference a different suspension can make. I was amazed as I sped up the road.

."This is good!I was talking to myself as I drove down the empty national highway, changing lanes as I went. Since this is a Boxster T, the ride is surprisingly much better than that of an 18-inch Cayman, despite the 20-inch large-diameter wheels.

Despite being lowered and having 20-inch wheels, the Sport PASM is truly amazing in achieving this ride quality. Moreover, the steering response and feel are at just the right level, making it very easy to drive. In terms of ride quality, it was very well finished at a level that made us wonder if it might surpass the 981 PASM. The level of perfection was very high, to the point that I thought it might even surpass the PASM of the 981.

As for the engine, it is the same 2-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder turbocharged engine as the 718 Cayman, with the same power. So, as usual, the car feels more comfortable in Sport mode than in Normal mode. However, what I think is a little different from the 718 Cayman is the engine sound.

The 718 Cayman I mentioned earlier was equipped with sports exhaust, which increases in volume and has a faint bubbling sound when turned on, although the effect was more uplifting,This Boxster T is not equipped with a sport exhaust.(The 2-liter series of 718's discontinued the sport exhaust midway through the year.)

Despite this, the sound is pleasant. If the 718 Cayman's sport exhaust sound is a muddy "guone" sound, the 718 Boxster T's sound is a muddy "quong" sound,I would describe it as a "good" sound. It is loud enough and has a very pleasant tone for a 4-cylinder turbo engine.

Our 992 Carrera T sounds completely different from the other 992 grades, though,The same can be said about 718 with a 'T'.I was surprised to hear the "A" and "B" sounds. The sound of each of these instruments is less muddy and can be easily understood by describing it as a sound with no muddiness.

T is standard 20 inches. These are the optional 20" wheels.

Unfortunately, we have not been able to test the Boxster T on a winding road, but when we tried its handling on an open road, we were impressed by its straightforwardness and turnability, which is similar to the 718 GTS series and very easy to drive. In this sense, it is better than the base 718 Cayman, but it is also a little less fun to handle.

Since it is a Boxster, I opened the roof and drove it. The clear sound of the "T" comes directly into the cabin, and when I look up, I see a blue sky. It really felt good. I was reminded once again that a convertible is a vehicle that raises the quality of life.

718 'T'.

Ask the Dailer representative,He said that almost no 718 'T's have come in.As far as the person in charge of this project knows, there is only one Boxster T that he/she test drove, and as for the Cayman T, there is only one. Moreover, at the time of writing this blog, the model has already disappeared from the catalog.

This would make it a very rare grade, not just a GT3 or Targa.

Its content is excellent, with GTS-like options that are not available on the regular 2-liter base model. And the balance between the two is so good that, combined with the not-too-fast engine power of the 2-liter engine, it makes the 718 GTS a "GTS you can step on" in any situation, which is wonderful.

Initially, I thought that "A 718 "T" is a bargain model at the end of its model life anyway, right?I honestly thought it would be a "T", but that is not the case. It is not, as the name of the traditional Porsche "T" suggests.Porsche puristIt was tailored to be a Porsche for 'The

If you are looking for a fun and cosy Cayman Boxster in a 718, the "T" is a great buy.
Although few in number, they are still available on the used car market now. Now is the time to take advantage of this opportunity, as no one has yet discovered its appeal!
