Kyushu Touring 2023 Day3 with Porsche Boxster GTS (981)

Kyushu Touring Day2

Now it's time to go to Ibusuki Skyline!

The sun came out and the rain stopped for the morning,Aiming for the Ibusuki Skyline in a Porsche Boxster. This is the main destination of this touring.

The Ibusuki Skyline begins at the Taniyama IC, and after paying a 100 yen toll, the traffic volume dropped dramatically. The majestic Sakurajima peeked out from various observation decks.

The road was wet in places, but it dried up quickly. The Boxster kicked the dry road surface with its rear wheels in second gear, enjoying the dry road surface as if it were a living creature.

The Ibusuki Skyline is a mix of winding sections and a series of straight and mid to high speed corners. The Boxster is as supple and comfortable as ever, and on the winding sections, the car rolls lightly as it clears the curves in a circular motion. It feels good to drive. With a moderate sense of power, the driver can enjoy driving while maintaining high rpm.

On straights and sections with a series of medium to high speed corners, the extended acceleration in 3rd gear is very pleasing. In particular, the synchronization of the engine sound with the torque unique to NA engines is a blissful experience.

From Ibusuki Skyline to Mt.

Then, after that.Take the Ibusuki Skyline south to Mt. Kaimondake and go to Kaimon Sanroku Nature Park. The two Boxsters drive next to the grazing Tokara horses to the observatory. The view from the observatory is excellent, overlooking Kagoshima Bay and the East China Sea, with Nagasaki Hana and Cape Sata in the distance. Lunch was served at a local restaurant. After lunch, we returned to the Ibusuki Skyline for the return trip.

The Ibusuki Skyline on the return trip was run a little more carefully. As usual, this road is great and one of the best in Japan. There are other scenic roads, but this is probably the No. 1 road that car lovers enjoy driving on.

If only I had more time, I would make another round trip, or maybe two more round trips.

And Reunion

At a lookout point halfway along the Ibusuki Skyline, I was checking the time of the return ferry and how to get to the port when TAKURO suddenly started fussing over his phone. To my surprise, Mr. Polsiteri, who guided me around Aso on the first day, told me that he was coming to Ibusuki Skyline.I immediately contacted him and we agreed to meet.

Mr. Polsiteri appeared in a 992 Targa 4GTS, a complete change from the first day. This is the first one I've seen, and it looks great with the agate gray exterior and red interior, and the clear tail lenses. Here, I had the opportunity to test drive this Targa 4GTS, which I will post in a separate blog entry.

After that, we parted ways with Mr. Polschy and traveled mainly at high speed to the ferry port of Shibushi. We arrived at Shibushi Port a little too early. After the boarding procedure, we had to wait for a while for boarding.

Return from Shibushi Port

We departed a little late, but we had a great time eating together again at the ferry's restaurant and reminisced about our Kyushu touring, which was TAKURO's first time in Kyushu,He was, after all, impressed by the Ibusuki Skyline's greatness. He said that the road was more pleasant than he had imagined and that he wished he could have driven it with the GT3 he used to own. I agree with him. That's how great that road is.

The two men ate a buffet on the ferry, as they always do, while discussing Porsche and touring. Then, the ferry headed for Osaka.

The memories of the Kyushu touring were definitely a trip for Porsche lovers and driving enthusiasts. The Ibusuki Skyline, in particular, is one of the most memorable driving routes, and is a famous road that makes me want to drive it again someday. I always feel the same way,It is through long-distance touring like this that the appeal of the Porsche car is revealed. It is not only an ultra-high performance sports car, but also a traveler's car.

I would like to encourage everyone to take a touring trip once you buy a Porsche.
