I'm finally starting to enjoy my Porsche 911 GT3!

Reviews & Test Rides

911 GT3 after a long time

The other day, I drove a Porsche 911 GT3 for the first time in a while. I have not been able to ride for a while due to morning sickness since the end of last year, and even after I recovered from the sickness, so it has probably been about half a year since I drove it.

I used to be aThe mere mention of GT3 scared me so much that I could not drive properly.Its sense of power, its precise handling, and its delicate clutch operation at low speeds...in many ways, it was so different from the regular model Porsche that I didn't feel I could drive it, and I just ended up being overwhelmed.

However, time has passed since then, and I can drive my 981 Boxster GTS (MT) normally, and I drive a BMW 320i (MT) on a daily basis.I'd like to believe I've honed my manual driving skills compared to before.So, I decided to have my husband watch the kids and drive the GT3 by myself for the first time in a while.

Compared to the 981 Boxster GTS, the clutch of the late 911 GT3 is lighter. So you'd think it would be easier to operate.Starting and especially starting up hills is much more careless than in the Boxster.according to one's husband

The GT3 is a racing engine, so I guess it doesn't have the torque at very low speeds. So, I would not say that it is difficult to start the car, but compared to the Boxster, it seems to require more delicate acceleration and clutch operation at low speeds.

And that is exactly what he said.

In the Boxster, when starting off, it is quick from the time the clutch is applied to the "connected" feeling, but if you start off in the GT3 with the same feeling, you will almost stall the car.We need to give him another breath and handle him delicately from a semi-clueless state.Image.

So I used to be nervous about riding in the city because I thought I had to be a little cautious, but this time I realized that once you get the feel for it, there is nothing to be afraid of at all. In fact, the car did not stall even once this time.(I'm not proud of it, but I'm not proud of it.)

Shifting up GT3

Since it was a special day, I decided to go to Ashiyu Driveway in GT3. Since the new coronavirus has prevented me from going to cherry blossom viewing, I thought I could at least enjoy the cherry blossoms from inside the car. Also, my husband had told me about a place calledCorrect manual operation of 991 late GT3following the example of

Just like driving a car with PDK, if you operate the car while keeping light pressure on the accelerator pedal, the car will upshift with a "bash! and the car will shift up as if it were a PDK car.

In order to let the sensation seep into my body, I decided to run Ashiu for practice as well.

I really think that driving a manual car is something you get used to. I used to be so intimidated by the GT3, but on this day I was able to drive it with a normal state of mind. The road to the Ashiya toll booth on the Ashiya Driveway is a series of narrow, tight curves, but I wondered why the handling of the GT3 was so precise.

It still turns and turns gingerly.

Of course, despite the fact that the Boxster, the Panamera, the Cayman, and the 911 GTS I just got a ride in turn well and impress me every time.The GT3 is precise beyond compare, and cuts into the road with gusto, without bulging at all.My husband often says, "It's as if GT3 is telling me that I can go further," and that's exactly how I felt every time I rounded a curve.

I'm not as good as this, I'm not done yet!(Why the Kansai dialect? )

It's as if he's speaking to me.You are enveloped in a mysterious sense of oneness with the car.Also, I was taught at a Porsche driving school once.

When turning a curve or corner, step on the left foot placed on the footrest, press the seat against your back, and turn as if pushing the steering wheel from your arm.

When I was aware of this, I was able to turn even more crisply and comfortably.

I'm not usually good at going around curves, and I often find myself reflecting, "Oh... this time I'm bloated again..." but even I, such as I am, can't help but think, "I'm not a good driver."If only the curve could go on forever and ever!It felt so good that I thought, "What the heck is this?

Once over the Ashiya toll booth, there are more straights and curves that are somewhat more gradual, and this is where I tried the lightning-fast shifting of the GT3. While keeping a normal foot on the accelerator pedal.(Do not let off the gas pedal when shifting up)The more you are aware of the need to be somewhat quicker on the clutch, the more you will be able toBASHUN!!!!!!!The upshift is like the paddle operation of PDK with the sound of...

Wow! !!!!

I couldn't help but facepalm. I tried a few times, with the windows open, feeling the sound of the engine on my skin, but each time IBASHUN!!!!!!!BASHUN!!!!!!!And...you can hear a shifting sound as if you heard it at a PCCJ race.

When this happened, I couldn't stop grinning for a while. Maybe an oncoming car would say, "What's with that guy, he's got a huge grin on his face...I would have been sickened by the "I'm sorry," but it was interesting, fun, and inspiring.

Differences from 981 Boxster, etc.

I also love the 981 Boxster GTS, which I often drive here in Ashiu, butWe realized that the Boxster and the GT3 are two very different and fun cars.

The Boxster is a convertible and the 981 has a great NA engine exhaust sound, soA car that lets you experience the joy of driving with all five senses, including wind, sound, and scenery.The handling of the car on curves is precise and rhythmical, and it makes me happy while driving. The handling on curves is precise and rhythmical, and it makes me feel happy while driving.

The GT3, on the other hand, is still a racing car.A car that pursues driving itself and finds pleasure in itI feel that the performance of the GT3 is so high that it is scary. The high performance is scary, and you can feel the seriousness of the Porsche engineers... So I think that the real thrill of driving the GT3 can only be experienced if you yourself take it seriously, hone your skills, and improve them....

This time, theI had the pleasure of driving with GT3 for the first time, but this is just the beginning.And I think that as we pursue this further, there will be a more interesting world waiting for us.

It was a weekday, so there were few cars, but when I saw a car in front of me, I basically slowed down and left quite a bit of space between the cars. I myself am afraid of being agitated, so I didn't want the car in front of me to feel that way...as much as possible.

In the case of the GT3, however, even from a distance, the front end of the GT3 seemed to convey its ruggedness and unusual atmosphere, and all cars pulled out their hazards and gave way to the GT3. The car was so impressive that all the cars pulled out their hazards to let us pass.I'm sorry for making you feel somewhat uncomfortable, thank you.The driver runs through with a "Thank You Hazard" feeling.

After driving for a while and taking pictures at our usual rest stop, we decided to leave early. I am a pregnant woman and in these times, I decided to go straight home.... However, on the way back, I looked at the East Rokko Observation Deck from the side and saw that the air was clear and the sky was far away.

(Abeno Harukas was clearly visible.)

And when I stopped the car, two young men came up to me quickly.

Is it GT3? It's so cool! And a left-hand drive MT? Did you just take delivery of it? This color is so cool!

He talked to me like this. His language is so young...smiling...w

I've told you two or three words.After all, the 911GT3 is the car of dreams among young car enthusiasts!I felt that it was a great opportunity for me to be a part of this project. I am so grateful to be allowed to drive such a car. I should be more grateful to my husband.

We can't stay long, so we bid the young man farewell and head home.

On the downhill, we lifted the front end of the car and drove carefully and cautiously so as not to lose it. As the residential area approaches, traffic volume increases, traffic lights become more frequent, and driving the GT3 requires a little more care.

It would be great to drive the GT3 on the highways of Tohoku and Koshinetsu... It won't be possible for a while, but once the situation settles down, I would love to make it happen...

I went home thinking, "I'm not sure I can do this. As soon as I got home, I was so excited to see my husbandI've never had so much fun in a GT3 game! It's the first time I've had fun with it! I knew GT3 was something else after all. It's worth the price...!and so on, and my husband would say things like.

I know, right? (laughs) You finally get it! This is a manual transmission, so it's a bit of a hurdle to get around on it.It's amazing what GT3 can do when they open up to you.Let's do it!
I think PDK would be a little easier to drive, but the GT3 Touring, which is only available with MT, is a "no-brainer.Maniacal Porsche that truly pursues only driving fun, not time-cutting.I think it's because it's a "car". I think it gives me even more pleasure when I handle the car.
Also, after realizing how great the GT3 is, I'm not really interested in high power cars or higher grade cars anymore.If you're looking for overall speed, this is all you need, and this car is all you need.I'm starting to think that.

He said.

Every Porsche model has its own charm, and every one of them is different and exciting. If I were to buy a Porsche myself, I would like to drive a 911T...but I am sure there is no MT available...and so on.

    I was able to experience the taste of different cars in a realistic and well-written and expressive way. Thank you very much.

      Thank you very much;
      I always think that it is difficult to communicate, so I am glad to hear you say so.
      Thank you for your continued support!

    At any rate, I don't think anyone would expect a pregnant woman to be bash-bash-bash-bashing a GT3 with a MT.
     I really think that there are all kinds of people in the world. Some people make their children listen to classical music, while others make their children listen only to flat 6s. Porscheaholic!

      Indeed, it is quite rare, even if you look for it all over Japan ^^;
      If you let your child listen to a lot of Flat 6, will he or she become a car enthusiast? Or will they lose interest in cars, saying, "I don't care about cars..."?
      I'm looking forward to seeing how my unborn child will grow up (laughs).

    Hmmm, I envy you.
    I still can't get GT3 to open up to me.
    Is it because I have only been on it about 5 times?
    It's an easy car to drive. I think it's an easy car to drive.
    At any rate, my new partner is taking delivery of his car today.
    I have a feeling I won't be on GT3 more.
    It's a long way to one man and one horse.

      No, we haven't had them completely open up to us yet, we are just barely at the starting line... ^^..;

      >At any rate, my new partner is being delivered today.
      Yeah that's awesome!!! Congratulations!!!
      I'm curious to know what you purchased...!

    Hello Mina and sir.
    Again, I read with great interest.
    I was happy to see young people descending. It's been a long time since people started talking about people leaving their cars, but it's a relief to see that there are still some promising young people in the Kansai region!

    I only know of the early GT3s, the 996, but it seems that the nervousness at very low speeds has been carried over to the latest GT3s as well.

    Can I talk about my impressions of the 981 Boxster while I'm at it? You talk one-sidedly without even asking for a reply, lol.

    It's quite subjective and narrow in scope, as it's mainly a comparison with a stained 997 Carrera, but 。。。。
    Compared to the 911, the Boxster turns better at town speed because the car is more straightforward. Of course, the 911 also turns when the steering wheel is turned.
    I think we can probably share this feeling of turning well. The basic movements of shifting, steering, and braking are too
    It's easier mentally than the 911 because it's so smooth. And I'm going to be a sloppy driver and I'm going to be a bad driver, lol.
    Is the 981 Boxster like a child with good materials that is made up even more, or is the 911 like a car that competes on its materials alone? Sorry for the poor analogy.
    I realized again that it is not a matter of which is better or superior, as many people have said, but completely a matter of taste.
    Now I still have the feeling of Sukin 911, so I miss that slightly martial feeling, but gradually I will get used to 981.
    I wonder if this feeling will fade too! I really envy those who have many animals.
    Is GTS a little overdramatic? I think so, but if you ride once a week, this level of stimulation is good.
    I apologize for the length of this message.

      Thank you for everything!

      The 997 and the 981 are from different generations.
      I guess it must be totally different from what it feels like to ride it or something...

      The 981 is indeed easy to ride and even I can enjoy driving it without worrying about anything.
      So, if you drive a 964 with this feeling, you will not be able to ride it at all ^^;

      To improve my driving skills, I need to
      I still think that an old Porsche is probably better than a modern one ^^;

      Nevertheless, convertibles are great this time of year...
      I would be happy to hear your thoughts on the various runs again.

    In order of heaviest clutch.
    993 -> Cayman(981) -> GT3(991)
    Order of easy clutch connection.
    Cayman=GT3 -> 993
    Yes.
    993 is different from heavy and light, and it still goes up at some point.
    Sometimes it is difficult to get a good grip.
    It's hard to grasp the meet point or...

    The GT3 is too light, and right after you get off it, you'll be in a 993 or Alpina.
    The first few stop-and-go and
    Shifting gears, my left leg couldn't fully adjust.
    Delicate operation is possible due to the reaction force of the clutch pedal.
    It will disappear.
    It's especially incompatible with Alpina, lol.
    In my opinion, the clutch pedal of the GT3 is a little more responsive.
    I would love it if there were some kind of "I'm a good person!

    • Mina.Mina.

      Mr. Whooper.
      Thank you for everything!
      After all, as we become more modern, clutches are getting lighter.

      I would love to drive a 993 manual car or something like that someday.
      I think it will definitely stall ^^;

      >I personally think that the GT3 clutch pedal is a little more responsive.
      It would be great if there were >e...
      Yes, I agree! I wish the 911GT3 was at least as good as the 981.
      I think some heavier weight is easier to adjust, and I think heavier weight is more GT3-like ^^;

    Nice to meet you.
    Next month in May, another 991 late GT3 winged PDK, also a Crayon, will arrive.
    I discovered this blog three days ago and have enjoyed reading almost all of it as if I were fishing.
    I was driving a 991 Carrera S until 2 years ago, when I switched to a G63. I really wanted to come back to Porsche, so I sold the G63 after only 7 months, and am now making a comeback with the GT3.
    Like your husband, I researched GT3 beforehand and this blog made me look forward to the delivery of the car more and more.
    I am also in Kansai and often go to that area.
    Please let me know if we cross paths again either way.

      >I discovered this blog 3 days ago and have enjoyed reading almost all of it as if I were fishing.
      I'm very happy (laughs), and I've yet to encounter the same crayon, a crayon with feathers.
      I hope one day I will be able to take pictures of them side by side.

      Thank you for your continued support!
