Porsche 911

Touring in Porsche 911 (992)! Driving on Okayama wide-area farm road!

To Okayama wide-area farm road

It has been almost a year since I bought my 992, but surprisingly, I have not gone on any touring-like trips.
I often go to Fuji Speedway with my family or use it for group touring with my Porsche friends, and I often tour with more than one person. He had not done much touring alone.

This time, I have been working oncenter of the Garbhadhatu mandala (containing Mahavairocana and eight Buddhas)I took the 992 out to participate in the Hiruzen MT (Meeting) held at Hiruzen Kogen, to which I had been invited by Mr.

It would be a waste to just go straight to Hiruzen. The plan was to drive along my favorite wide-area farm roads in Okayama (also known as "Ascension Highway") and then head to Hiruzen (Hiruzen Mountain). It is.

I wanted to leave earlier, but I overslept a bit and left around 9:00.

To Mimasaka Yamanami Kaido

We drove westward on the Chugoku Expressway, which was relatively empty even though it was Sunday. After passing the Yamazaki Interchange, one of the fastest mountain winding roads in Japan begins. However, there are many accidents in this area, so one must be careful.

When the mode switch on the steering wheel is switched to Sport mode, the car drops from 8th gear to 6th gear and the chassis is hardened moderately, allowing the driver to drive up steep uphill slopes with ease and vigor.

Before you know it, you are at the Tsuyama Interchange. I got off here.First, we aim for the Mimasaka Yamanami Kaido.I've blogged about this place many times, but it's a wonderful, pleasant road. There are few cars, no people, the pavement is excellent, and the road is wide. The pavement is excellent, the road is wide, and there is a straight, gentle winding road for about 25 kilometers.

This alone is enough to fill one's stomach, but it is not the only road in Okayama's wide-area farm roads. There are many more.

I have driven this road before with a 964 and a 981 Boxster GTS, but this is the first time with the 992.

The 992's PDK is very smart and automatically downshifts as if it knows in advance that there will be a corner. This is very pleasant.Personally, I even feel that the automatic mode is more pleasant than daring to operate it manually.

It has a good sense of power. No, it is a little too fast for my skills. No sport exhaust, but the exhaust is quite loud and satisfying enough. The harmony of the mechanical noise and exhaust sound is very pleasant and reminds me somehow of an air-cooled Porsche.

With its overwhelming torque, the car rushes uphill and through corners with such great neutral steer that you'd think it was a GT3. What more do you need? It is such a high performance car that I truly believe it is a GT3.

road to the back of Kibi Highway

After passing through the Mimasaka Yamanami Kaido, the Oku-Kibi Kaido is next. This is another famous road among famous roads that has been introduced many times. The next road is the Oku-Kibi Kaido, which has been mentioned many times in this series. Here, set the car to manual mode. The 992 is driven in 3rd and 4th gear while making full use of the paddle shifters and paddle shifters. It's a series of great corners.

The road was too long. There is so much going on that I honestly get a little bored along the way.It is quite a pleasant road and I never experience boredom on it, but you can think of it as a road with that much volume.

The curves are more numerous than those on the Mimasaka Yamanami Kaido, so turning is fun anyway. The sense of acceleration and stability when stepping on the brake, skimming the apex of the corner, and then pressing down on the accelerator pedal is something that can only be achieved with RR. Strong traction is transmitted to the road surface without waste, and the 911 exits the corner as if being pushed.

Moreover, the driver feels very secure because the vehicle body is completely stable.

It is truly an "Ascension Road".Not many roads are so pleasant to drive on.

After that, I participated in the Hiruzen MT and talked with many famous cars and their owners. I would like to write about the famous cars I met at the Hiruzen MT in a later article.

Return via R482

After the Hiruzen MT, we drove along the Hiruzen Daisen Skyline and took a break at the Onjodai Observatory. While taking in the grandeur of Mt. Daisen, we contemplated our next route. For now, we decided to take the R482 to Hyogo Prefecture, trying to drive on a road we had not traveled very often.

This R482 was the right road. There is little traffic and a pleasant country road continues.
We opened the top of the 911 and cruised along. There were sections along the way that took us through highlands and areas that weaved through the woods, and I highly recommend this road as it was very enjoyable.

This touring ended when we reached the Chigashira area. From here, we headed home on the expressway.

The total distance traveled was 553.6 km and the fuel consumption was 10.6 km/L.
