A Lightweight Body Crafted from Carbon Fiber

When it comes to Porsche 911-based restomods, Singer is a name that needs no introduction.

But there’s a new standout in the world of 911 restomods. Built by California-based Porsche specialist Gunther Werks, the GWR is turning heads with its uncompromising focus on lightweight construction and performance. Gunther Werks specializes in reimagining air-cooled Porsche 911s from the 993 generation for the modern era.

The GWR’s defining feature is its extensive weight-saving measures. By using carbon fiber for every body panel, Gunther Werks has reportedly brought the car’s weight down to just 1,080 kg. That’s remarkably light for a modern sports car.

The body has also been optimized for aerodynamic performance. At the front, a large air intake and black splitter sit beneath a hood with air extractors. A bold ducktail spoiler at the rear adds a contemporary touch to the 911’s classic silhouette.

Even the exhaust system is reportedly made using 3D-printing technology. This attention to detail speaks to Gunther Werks’ meticulous approach to the GWR.

A Motorsport-Inspired Interior

The GWR’s interior appears to blend motorsport-inspired functionality with luxurious craftsmanship. Carbon-fiber bucket seats and a carbon-fiber dashboard help reduce weight while delivering a premium feel.

The steering wheel is wrapped in Alcantara, while gold-colored gauges and a 12-o’clock marker add a distinctive finishing touch. These details strike a thoughtful balance, preserving the character of a classic 911 while bringing in modern elements.

A Thrilling Soundtrack from a Naturally Aspirated Engine

While many restomods opt for turbocharging, the GWR reportedly stays true to naturally aspirated power. Its 4.0-liter flat-six is built to rev all the way to 9,000 rpm.

The engine reportedly produces 500 hp (368 kW) and 461 Nm of torque—figures that promise an exhilarating drive. A bespoke throttle body, a new intake manifold, and lightweight titanium components are also said to sharpen engine response.

The razor-sharp response typical of a naturally aspirated engine, paired with the stirring sound of a flat-six climbing to 9,000 rpm, is sure to get the driver’s pulse racing.

A Meticulously Tuned Chassis

Gunther Werks appears to have lavished as much attention on the GWR’s chassis as on its engine and bodywork. The wheelbase is reportedly 30 mm longer than that of a standard 993-generation 911, and the front suspension uses a double-wishbone setup.

Combined with lightweight magnesium wheels, these changes are said to give the GWR exceptionally precise handling and impressive agility. The result promises a driving experience in which the car responds faithfully to the driver’s inputs.

Gunther Werks has not disclosed the GWR’s price, but production is reportedly limited to just 40 cars. Given the extraordinary level of engineering and craftsmanship, it’s safe to say this will be a very expensive Porsche.

The GWR combines the soul of a classic 911 with modern technology and exceptional performance. Packed with respect and passion for the Porsche 911, it looks set to be the ultimate restomod. Following in Singer’s footsteps, the GWR is sure to spark plenty of conversation among Porsche owners.

I love long-distance touring, and I believe a car only counts when you drive it. On days off I travel around Japan in our cars. On the blog I mainly write test-drive reports and touring notes, and I also look after the...
