The Carrera T Is Almost Here

It’s hard to believe this blog will soon be six years old.

I started it on a whim, hoping “I could share what makes the Panamera in our garage so special with more people.”

Thanks to all of you, it has grown into Japan’s most-visited personal car blog.

I’m truly grateful to our readers—and to my husband, who has been my partner in running it every step of the way.

And now, the dream I’d had since those early days—to “buy a Porsche with my own money”—is finally about to come true, six years later.

The Carrera T Has Been a Dream Car for Years

Last fall, I ordered a Carrera T, taking the plunge with the sort of resolve it takes to leap from the stage at Kiyomizu Temple—and brace for a broken leg.

I’d actually been fascinated by the Carrera T for years, ever since I saw a promotional video for the 991-generation Carrera T, introduced a few years earlier. (Its signature color at the time was Racing Yellow.)

Its looks completely won me over, and I fell in love with the idea of driving one with a manual transmission.

“That looks so good! They don’t offer the manual in Japan (it wasn’t available here at the time), but I’d love to own a Carrera T someday! Maybe I could even buy one through an importer!”

I used to say things like that to my husband all the time.

But a Carrera T still felt like a car from another world. Eventually, I even forgot I’d ever said I wanted one…

So I never imagined that, just a few years later, the timing would work out and I’d actually be able to buy one.

Maybe my subconscious had been set on a Carrera T all along. (笑)

The Delivery Date Is Finally in Sight!

Production of my Carrera T was completed in mid-February.

That was sooner than I’d expected, but after that, the status in My Porsche didn’t seem to change at all…

“Is it there yet? Is it there yet? How long is it going to stay in a German port?” I checked every day, growing more impatient. About a month later, the status finally changed: the ship had set sail.

Even then, the My Porsche updates were slow to come. Around April 10, the ship was still near Yemen.

Then I heard from H, my contact at the dealership.

“The Carrera T is making good progress and is now off the coast of Malaysia. At this rate, it should reach the dealership around mid-May, with delivery expected toward the end of the month.”

When I checked yesterday, it had made it as far as the waters near Kagoshima!

Wow—it’s finally happening! It’s made it this far…!

I’d thought there might be delays even after it reached Japan, and that delivery could slip to sometime in the summer. But now there’s finally a delivery window, and my dream is starting to feel real. (Even if I still haven’t quite taken it in…)

That said, I still haven’t sold my current car, a Suzuki Swift Sport, so I need to get that moving quickly. I also have paperwork to sort out…

Work has me flat out every day, too, but I need to make sure I’m ready to welcome the Carrera T!

And if I enter the lottery for the Porsche Festival in June and get lucky, it would be a perfect opportunity to give the Carrera T its first break-in miles. Plus, if any readers are there, I might even be able to give you a low-key first look. That would be lovely.

First, though, I need to get everything ready without missing a thing. (Knowing me, I’m bound to forget something…)
