Porsche is currently testing the next-generation 911 GT2 RS prototype at the Nürburgring.
Recently, many spy shots have surfaced, and this time, I’ve compiled multiple pieces of information available so far. According to these, the new model will feature extreme aerodynamics that surpass even the GT3 RS, and an ultimate 992 with power likely approaching 800 horsepower.
Bodywork More Extreme Than the GT3 RS
The prototype spotted at the Nürburgring reportedly has a body wider than that of the GT3 RS.
The rear fenders are fitted with special cladding, hiding new wheels never before seen on Porsche test vehicles. The front is also noticeably wider, maintaining the GT3 RS’s arch vents and ducts but adopting a much broader design.

It also features a carbon fiber hood with large openings to vent heat from the radiator, and a carbon roof with vertical vanes. These are likely designed to channel air toward a motorsport-sized rear wing equipped with a DRS function. Compared to the naturally aspirated GT3 RS, the rear section shows several changes. Not only is the new 992.2 rear garnish fitted, but a different lower bumper concealing a new exhaust system has also been spotted.
Instead of the GT3 RS’s twin center pipes, the rear bumper’s inner section has provisional exhaust outlets. These are not typical of production cars, but their placement suggests the real thing, indicating that an entirely new rear end will be necessary to accommodate the turbocharged exhaust system.
Powertrain Potentially Approaching 800 Horsepower
Details remain extremely limited, and until the new 992.2 Turbo is unveiled later this year, the powertrain can only be speculated upon.
It seems possible that a hybrid system integrating a small electric motor inside the dual-clutch transmission and another electric motor within the large turbo, similar to what’s found in the GTS, could be incorporated. However, how the new Turbo will integrate this technology remains unclear, and that will shed light on what the GT2 RS will carry.

Regarding power, Porsche could significantly surpass the 690 horsepower of the previous GT2 RS introduced in 2017. With the next 911 Turbo S expected to approach that figure, the 992.2 GT2 RS could easily exceed 700 horsepower and potentially approach the 800-horsepower mark. This is a plausible scenario, especially if Porsche aims for the ultimate extreme before European emissions regulations make such figures impossible.
Power will almost certainly be sent to the rear wheels only via an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. Given such massive estimated power and torque, a manual transmission is unlikely.
The Culmination of the 992 Generation: The GT2 RS
It’s difficult to pinpoint the ultimate variant of the Porsche 911, but there is plenty of evidence suggesting it will be the GT2 RS.
This expensive model has long served as the grand finale for each 911 generation. Combining the most extreme chassis derived from the GT3 RS with an even more powerful turbocharged powertrain borrowed from the Turbo, the next-generation model looks set to evolve further.

991-generation GT2 RS
As European emissions regulations become increasingly strict, opportunities to produce such extreme high-performance models will become limited.
The 992-generation GT2 RS may be one of Porsche’s last chances to push the limits of internal combustion engines. For Porsche owners and motorsport fans alike, the arrival of this next-generation GT2 RS will be a major highlight.
