Test drive the new Porsche 911 Carrera (992). Here is the goodness of the basic model.

Reviews & Test Rides

992 type Porsche 911 Carrera

It's been about a year and a half since I bought the new Porsche 911 and 992 Carrera Cabriolet.

Since then, I have run more than 8000km including touring, city riding, commuting, and circuits. Very easy to useIn particular, the 992's usability and comfort in the city, commuting, and shopping scenes exceed that of its predecessor, 991.I feel that this is a good thing.

Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet (992)

Also, I am amazed at the performance at the limit on the 992 circuit.

Great road holding performance, strong torque feeling, and natural steering response are very fun to drive. Even from the experience of riding the 991.2 GT3, the combat power of the 992 is very high,I even think that the more amateurs are, the faster the 992 can run.

On the other hand, when it comes to touring, mountain passes, and winding, the sensual and emotional 991.1 is personally more fun, and when it comes to long-distance touring, the 992's turn is inevitably less. ..

GT Silver Porsche 911 Carrera

Such a 992 type, but this timeI had the opportunity to test drive the latest MY (model year) 2022 type basic 911 Carrera.I haven't tried high revs this time because the car has just been delivered and the break-in has not been completed.

So, for the feeling at high speed and high rotation, please refer to the review article of 992 in my house.

Porsche 911 Carrera (992)

The individual colored in GT Silver Metallic is very cool. The color GT Silver was originally set from the Carrera GT.And it's a silver with a strong metallic feel, and it's my favorite silver more than any car's silver.

The wheels are optional black painted Carrera S wheels. Wearing 20/21 inches in the front and back, it looks great with silver. "911" logo on the rear. The interior is black and the seats are covered with Sports Seat Plus.

This is exactly what Simple is Best is all about.

Just sitting in the driver's seatIf this is the case, you will be able to ride as a companion for a long time without getting bored. It is an individual with a strong atmosphere that makes you think.

992 Sports Seat Plus

The seat is thicker than the normal seat, so it feels comfortable to ride. Besides, the side support of the seat is just right.

With or without 992 type GPF

When you start the engine, the cold start makes a lot of noise.Although it is an individual equipped with a sports exhaust, the volume is almost the same as the normal exhaust 992 without GPF in my house.

Blog readers say that MY2021 and 2022 992 are very quiet, but this Carrera is not at least "quiet".It's an ordinary brave exhaust sound.Certainly, when idling is stable, it becomes quiet, but when you start running, it wraps around the inside of the car with a nice exhaust sound and mechanical noise.

No matter how you think about it, it's not the expression "quiet".

Certainly, GPF should be attached from around this year, but I thought that it was quite brave, and when I looked into the lower part,Apparently this doesn't seem to have a GPF.It's just a visual judgment, but as far as I check overseas materials, it seems that there is no GPF when it comes to this MY2022 911 Carrera.

992 GPF-less muffler

In light of the above illustration, it seems that GPF is not attached.

Even when the sports exhaust is actually turned off, it makes a good sound as it is, and when it is turned on, the bubbling sound becomes louder, which gives a very sporty impression.

By the way, compared to our normal exhaust 992,The sound quality and volume are almost the same when the start sound and sports exhaust are off. When turned on, the sports exhaust is a little quieter and the bubbling is more flashy.Feeling.

Handling of 992

For handling,The feeling at the beginning of turning the steering is sharper than the cabriolet. The coupe is more responsive for about half a beat, with the feeling of turning your head to the inn. In the case of 992, it seems that the difference between the cabriolet and the coupe is much smaller than before the predecessor, but when compared directly like this, it seems that there is a slight difference.

Interior of Porsche 911 Carrera (992)

After turning the steering wheel and entering the turning state, the coupe and cabriolet do not feel much different from here. Turn the curve in a very stable state. I think there are about 992 cars that have such a strong sense of security in the middle of the curve.

There are other cars that bend more solidly without rolling,The 992 is the strongest in the sense of "security" that comes from the feeling that the car is in the driver's hands.

Nothing happens even if I increase the pace a little. There are some electronic controls that control it well behind the scenes, but this kind of setting is the best way to drive fast and comfortably on ordinary roads. You can concentrate on driving without worrying about strange things.

The goodness of the original 992 lies in the engine

As mentioned above, the engine is not running this time,After all the original 3.0 turbo engine is the best. There is really little turbo lag. The 450ps S engine is extremely fast if it is turned to high rpm, but when driving from low rpm to medium rpm, the response comes with a delay of one beat, so it feels jerky.

Interior of Porsche 911 Carrera (992)

For example, if you step on the accelerator from about 50 km fixed at 3rd speed, it is obvious that the engine of the original Carrera comes out quickly, but S seems to accelerate after a delay of about 1 second. ..

Therefore, theWe strongly recommend the plain Carrera in the city with many stop and go in Japan and in the so-called mountain pass winding.Do.

On the other hand, S is good for those who want to drive in the overtaking lane of the Shin Tomei Expressway and those who place importance on the feeling of acceleration when it is a straight line.

19/20 inch or 20/21 inch?

Next, regarding ride comfort, this time the Carrera is a 20/21 inch Carrera S wheel. On the other hand, my Carrera Cabriolet is a 19/20 inch Carrera wheel.

In that comparison,The 20/21 inch didn't make me feel uncomfortable at all.

Rather, the 20/21 inch feels more moist due to its moderate weight. On the other hand, the 19/20 inch is better for the light feeling that the spring is light.

Porsche 911 Carrera (992) wheels

The undercarriage of the 992 has a higher spring rate numerically than its predecessor, making it stiffer. Comparing this with the 991 generation, I feel that the expression of a very stiff undercarriage is appropriate.

Therefore, on a normal road surface, the tires have a good rolling feeling and a feeling of ground contact, and although it is hard, it feels good to ride. On the other hand, it is also a fact that the feeling of being shaken from side to side is stronger than that of the predecessor on the road surface where there is a difference in height between the left and right and where there are large irregularities.

I personally highly recommend it

Rear emblem of Porsche 911 Carrera (992)

After driving, I really liked this coupe's 992 Carrera. The specifications are simple and I like it, but more than that, the ride and handling are excellent, and the movement that spices up the cabriolet's athletic performance is very fresh.

If you are not aIf I buy another 992, I would definitely buy a GT Silver Coupe Base Carrera, or a Base Carrera 4.It was a test drive that reconfirmed the beauty of this car and the good performance of the basic Carrera.

    Hello. - Hello.
I am always looking forward to seeing your blog.
I thought it would be true this time as well.
    I own 992 Carrera 4.
Compared to Carrera, the start feels a little sluggish, but when you start running, you can feel a solid feeling. The circumference of the foot is also supple and the best feeling.
At first, I thought that Porsche Turbo or GT3 would be good next time, but when driving on the highway in the YouTube video, critics said that it was a "great run", but there was a loud noise at the seam of the road. If you do, you will be wondering "where?"
After all I think that Carrera is the best for Porsche 911.
It is often referred to as a plain Porsche, but it is tempting to say that it has the name Porsche Carrera. I think Carrera is an M model for BMW, an S model for Audi, and an AMG for Mercedes.
Critics say "su", but I say it lightly, but I think that Porsche is the only country in the world that says Porsche.

      Hello Mr. Kunipon.
      Thank you for always reading.
992 Carrera 4, good! If I buy 992 next time, I will be the first choice ^^
It is difficult for people to understand the goodness of Carrera, and many people think that the higher grade is superior in all aspects, but with regard to Porsche, even if the performance is excellent, it is never so. I do not think.
Carrera has the goodness of Carrera, and I think it suits best especially in the road environment in Japan ^^

I always enjoy looking at your site.

We are considering the base grade of 992, so it was very helpful!
The fact that the sports seats are thicker than the normal ones was mentioned in either blog.
I have a backache, so I am considering a 14way with a lumbar support that can change the angle of the seat, but since it is basically a normal seat, will it be thin?

I am worried about the color of Aventurine Green or White, Carrara White, and GT Silver.

I checked the configurator dozens of times, but it's hard to tell the difference in specifications.

    I'm looking forward to it

Hello, Mr. Sakamichi of the wind.

Yes, it's basically a normal seat, so it's thinner than the normal seat. If you can go up to 14way, I think it's better to go to 18way. Alternatively, if you don't need the memory function or electric power, we recommend the 4-way Sports Seat Plus.
I have experienced both Carrara and ordinary white before, but personally, I think that ordinary white is enough to buy next time. Of course, I recommend Aventurine Green, but I think the coolness of GT Silver's metallic feel and the tirelessness are wonderful. For your reference!

Nice to meet you, I always enjoy reading.

Finally I also decided to deliver the long-sought Porsche.

Although it is a base grade in the first half of Cayman of 987, it is very cute with a frog face and I personally like the power because it is reasonable.

The final goal is Carrera left-hand drive mt, but now I'm going to move forward little by little with my beloved Cayman.

Ambitious to buy Porsche thanks to this blog? ambition? I commented that I wanted to thank him for pushing me to buy it.

I am looking forward to interesting articles in the future.

      Hello Jyukta.

Congratulations on the delivery of Porsche! !!
987 Cayman's bass has once been experienced a long time ago,
I remember that the engine sound when I turned it was wonderful.
The body is also tight and I think it's very good.

I don't mean to push my back at all, but readers often say so (laughs).
But I am very happy that you can buy Porsche and enrich your life.
      Keep up the good work!

  4. hero

It is nice to meet you. I always look forward to seeing your work.
In fact, I visited this blog a few years ago and was so inspired by the world of Porsche, which I had never even considered before, that I bought a 993 for my first Porsche. I am very grateful to the couple for their blog, which gave me the opportunity to do so.
I am currently in the process of placing an order for a 992, and I would be very grateful if you could give me your opinion on the following two points. In this article, you say that if you were to buy another car, you would buy a bare-bones Carrera or Carrera 4. Another point is that you mentioned in another article about the ride quality of the base Carrera and the Carrera S. My own impression after test driving both the base and the S is that the higher-end S has a milder ride quality in terms of sports performance. However, several salespeople I talked to said that the comparison between the two was almost the same. Do you think that the S is supposed to be sportier (at least in terms of performance) but is intentionally set up to have a milder ride than the base model? I am wondering whether to go with the base model or the base 4, or the base model or the S. I would very much like to ask you for your reference. Thank you in advance.

    • HiroHiro

      Hello, Hiro-san.

Thank you for reading our blog!
      Regarding your question,

The Carrera 4 was my candidate because I did not have a four-wheel-drive Carrera at the time, I wanted to use it as an all-weather 911, and I like the stability of a four-wheel-drive model.

I think there is basically no difference in ride quality between Carrera and Carrera S.
Wheel size, type, and tire brand (what it will be depends on luck at the time of ordering) will have a major impact, as well as whether or not the optional PDCC (which can only be selected for S and above) is available. The recommended configuration for a comfortable ride is strongest with 20/21" classic wheels, Michelin tires, and PDCC.

I highly recommend the base Carrera. Perhaps after driving the S on the winding roads and around town, you will be surprised at how easy the engine is to drive and how stress-free it is when you drive the base. The base model has less turbo lag.

We hope the above is helpful.

    Hiro

Thank you for your kind response!
I also apologize for the delay in sending the thank you e-mail.
Thank you very much for your valuable feedback.
I then went to the dealer and talked to them and they said that they have already stopped taking orders for Carrera 4 and GTS and higher role models.
In this case, it is not a question of which model is better, but rather, the one that can be ordered and has the smallest waiting list.
It seems likely that the later 992 models will get some kind of electric assist, although not to the point of a hybrid.
This could be the last model of the pure engine. Please let us know more about it.
We wish you and your family continued success.

    Hello.
I recently went to PEC and compared a bare-bones 911 and a Cayman GTS.
When I drove a 997 before (I was still young), I thought that an Evo or an Imp would be better (faster). But the 911 (992) was much milder in ride and behavior than I had imagined.
If you are as good as an instructor, I guess, but if you are mainly a street rider and only drive on a closed course once or twice a year as an amateur, I thought a plain 911 would be the best choice.
Although PASM is not attached, it may be more convenient for city driving if the vehicle has a slight height.

      Oh, you went to PEC!
      >I thought that a plain 911 would be best for an amateur driver who mainly drives on a closed course once or twice a year, but not if he is as good as an instructor.
As you say, I guess it would be totally different depending on whether you mainly drive on the street or on circuits and such courses,
I too am mainly a city driver, so I find the 911 easy to drive.

When I went to PEC, the instructor told me that "the more the connoisseurs like to drive, the more they say they enjoy the Cayman and Boxster,
I felt like I knew what it was.

      >Although PASM is not attached, it may be more convenient for city driving if the vehicle has a slight height.
It is true that there are many places in town where there are many steps.
