About Buying a Porsche
Every day, I receive inquiries and messages about purchasing a Porsche on this blog.
From everyone’s messages, I can feel the excitement of ordering a Porsche and eagerly awaiting delivery, which only makes me think more and more, “I want to be able to buy my own Porsche soon!” (laughs)
Recently, I received questions about buying a 911 Cabriolet (992 model).
There were mainly four questions, and I shared my husband’s answers with the inquirer. This time, I’d like to share some excerpts from that exchange.
However, please keep in mind that these are just my husband’s personal opinions—”the thoughts of a Porsche owner who has owned various Porsches and test-driven many others through acquaintances.” I hope you’ll read it with that perspective.
About the Porsche 911 Cabriolet (992 model)
1. Base Carrera or Carrera 4?
The first question was, “Considering driving on rainy highways at decent speeds, I feel a bit uneasy about the base model. Would the Carrera 4 be better?”
My husband’s reply was:
If you’re just driving at high speeds on a highway in heavy rain, the base model is more than enough. The wet mode on the 992 is very stable and allows for fast driving. I experienced this firsthand when driving in a downpour at Fuji Speedway. However, if you’re like me and enjoy more adventurous touring—driving on snowy roads, rain, slightly icy patches all in one day—then the all-wheel drive is definitely more reassuring.
When my husband drove the 992 Cabriolet at a track day held at Fuji Speedway in a heavy downpour, our family was watching from the home straight. We were amazed at how stable and fast it was, even in such severe rain.
2. Spider wheels or Turbo wheels?
The next question was, “My body color is Aventurine Green, but I’m torn between Spider wheels and Turbo wheels.”
His answer was:
Spider wheels look incredibly cool and are tempting to choose. But Spider wheels are heavier and worsen ride comfort, so you should pick them knowing that. I’ve driven models with Spider wheels a few times, and the ride wasn’t as comfortable as with regular wheels. By the way, I think Aventurine Green suits a classic vibe, so if it were me, I’d go with classic wheels.
3. To add seat ventilation or not?
The third question was, “I’ve heard the seat ventilation makes quite a bit of noise when operating. Should I add it to the Cabriolet?”
My husband said:
I don’t notice the operating noise at all, even if people say it’s loud. And since I use seat ventilation almost every day in summer drives, if you drive often, I definitely recommend adding it. Also, while not seat ventilation, the steering wheel heater is amazing. On cold winter days, you might drive with the top down, and normally the steering wheel would be freezing cold. But with the heater on, the wheel warms up quickly at the push of a button, making driving very comfortable.
4. Option to make tail and brake lights clear
The fourth question was, “What do you think about the option to make the tail and brake lights clear?”
My husband replied:
That’s a matter of personal taste, so either way is fine. But if it were me, I wouldn’t go clear. I think Aventurine Green suits a classic look, so I’d keep it orthodox. If the body color were GT Silver or black, I think clear brake lights would look really cool!
A Porsche Owner’s Personal View
That’s the summary of his answers, but since these are his personal views, it’s not necessarily “the absolute truth.”
Still, I often get asked for honest opinions from a Porsche owner’s perspective, and I’m happy to share his thoughts whenever I can.
I hope these answers help you a little in choosing your car.
