Silver Meter Rings Installed on Porsche 911 GT3 and Boxster GTS

My husband installed silver meter rings on the speedometers of our GT3 and Boxster, and he wrote an article about it. Please have a look if you’re interested.

I remember when the 1,000,000th 911 commemorative model was announced, its interior featured elegant wood trim and chrome rings on the meters that really left a strong impression.

Actually, I’ve contacted the dealer to see if these meter rings can be obtained, and they have been searching for them, but so far there’s no clear prospect of getting them.
I had also tried buying aftermarket meter rings on Yahoo Auctions and Amazon before, but their shine was weak, they felt very plastic-y, and they were thick—personally, I just couldn’t accept them. I even tried making my own by buying chrome moldings, but handling the joints was extremely difficult, and that too was far from satisfactory.

Homemade rings using molding. The joint on the top of the middle ring is unacceptable.
SuncoastParts Meter Rings
Separately from the dealer inquiry, while searching on my own for meter rings, I came across news that SuncoastParts, a well-known American Porsche parts retailer, was releasing meter rings (not genuine Porsche parts).
I immediately tried to order them, but they were sold out. After waiting a few days, sales resumed, so I quickly bought some—and they turned out to be very good.
They are made of ABS resin, so the feel isn’t particularly high-end and there are some minor burrs. However, the plating is done quite well, giving just the right amount of shine, matching the other chrome parts inside the car.
Installation is super easy—just peel off the double-sided tape and stick them on. However, since the adhesive tape is a bit weak, I recommend cleaning the surface with alcohol or similar beforehand.
This time, I purchased rings for both the 911 and the Boxster, but the ones that arrived were the same. Since the Boxster has a triple gauge cluster, it seems the outer two rings are not used. By the way, there are also versions for the Cayman, Macan, Cayenne, and Panamera.

Also installed on the Boxster.
Once installed, the previously sterile meter area suddenly feels much more vibrant, and it harmonizes well with the chrome rings on the air conditioning vents and the Sport Chrono stopwatch, giving the entire interior a very balanced look.
Since this is a customization that can be removed anytime if you get tired of it, I recommend giving it a try if you’re interested!
