The Nightmares I Had When My Panamera First Came Home

Nightmares After My Panamera Arrived
I can’t remember how many years ago it was, but I set a photo of a Panamera as my phone wallpaper. When I decided, “One day, I’m absolutely going to own one!” I figured my phone’s lock screen was the perfect place for it—a picture I’d see dozens of times a day to keep my dream in focus.
Time passed, and then, about a year and a half ago, a Panamera arrived at our home much sooner than I’d expected. (That said, my goal of buying a Panamera with my own money is still very much alive.) I was thrilled to finally be driving the car I’d dreamed of owning, but back then, I often had unsettling dreams at night.
In one dream, I parked the Panamera, came back, and it was gone—nowhere to be seen. “What? How is this possible? I definitely parked it right here! What do I do?” I called H, my contact at the dealership, and the police, then searched everywhere, but the car was nowhere to be found.
In another, I was driving the Panamera when a car came hurtling toward me from the opposite lane and slammed into it, shattering the windshield.
Every time I woke up, I’d sigh with relief: “Oh… it was just a dream. Thank goodness…”
I’d Dreamed of Owning a Panamera for So Long
Whenever I told my husband about these dreams, he’d usually just laugh and say, “What on earth? (笑)” But I think the idea of actually driving the car I’d always dreamed of owning—after deciding, “One day, I’m going to buy a Panamera”—was so unbelievable that I couldn’t quite take it in.
Maybe it was like dating a celebrity you’ve admired for years…
(Not that I’ve ever dated one.)
I haven’t had those dreams at all lately. Maybe that means I’m finally starting to accept owning a Panamera as reality. But if I felt this way when I hadn’t even bought it myself, I’m already a little nervous that the day I buy one with my own money and take delivery, I’ll be plagued by even worse nightmares.
