Ordering and Production Schedule of the 718 Spyder RS

As I’ve already mentioned in live streams and elsewhere, I placed an order for the 718 Spyder RS, and it is currently in production.
The current production schedule is as follows:

・Production start date: November 26
・Expected production completion date: January 23, 2025
・Expected start of shipping: Between January 23 and February 1
・Scheduled departure from Japan: Late January to mid-February
・Expected arrival in Japan: Earliest March (likely April or May)

Considering these dates, it looks like the car will actually arrive in my hands around spring next year.

Exterior Specs and Options

When ordering the 718 Spyder RS, the first option I decided on was the Weissach Package.
It’s a very expensive option, but I felt it was essential to bring out the special character unique to the RS model.

Choosing the body color was particularly challenging. Initially, I was leaning toward GT Silver, but after reviewing the other Porsches I own, which are mostly in subdued colors like white, gray, navy, and green, I decided to boldly go for a flashy color this time and chose Racing Yellow. This choice was inspired by a photo of a Carrera GT in yellow running on a circuit that really impressed me.

Other exterior options are as follows:

・Soft top: Black (no stitching)
・Wheels: 20-inch 718 Cayman GT4 RS forged aluminum wheels (satin black finish)
・Weissach Package: U-shaped carbon finish on the front trunk
・Door release lever: High-gloss finish
・Windshield frame (A-pillar): Black foil finish (aimed at making the ride height look lower)
・Rear Porsche logo: Silver high-gloss finish

Regarding the wheels, I also considered magnesium wheels, but at 2.28 million yen, they were very expensive, and since I plan to drive on narrow, hard-to-drive roads (“酷道”) like I usually do, I was worried about stone chips causing damage. So I chose the standard aluminum wheels and had them finished in satin black to balance with the body color. The concept this time is “chic in yellow and black.”

Interior Specs and Options

For the interior, I aimed for a sophisticated finish based on yellow and black to match the Racing Yellow body color. The main options are as follows:

・Steering position: Left (the comfort of operating the PDK, buttons, and navigation with my dominant right hand is irreplaceable)
・Seats: Full bucket seats
・Interior trim package: Yellow stitching (410,000 yen)
・Seat belts: Racing Yellow
・Steering wheel column cover: Leather finish with yellow embroidery
・Door sill guards: Carbon with illumination
・Floor mats
・Sun visors: Race-Tex specification
・Center console storage: With “PORSCHE” logo
・Door pull loops (door opening straps): Racing Yellow

The config doesn’t reflect the stitching, but the interior is specified to match the look in this photo.

Functional Options

To enhance driving performance and comfort, I selected the following options:

・PDK: Standard equipment
・Front lift system: Mandatory option (raises ride height by 3 cm)
・Chrono package: Interior clock
・Brakes: PCCB (ceramic brakes, 1,186,000 yen)
・Brake calipers: Black high-gloss finish
・Headlights: LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS)
・Cruise control: Standard type (49,000 yen)
・Light design package: Adds ambient lighting
・Smoker’s package: 12V power outlet (I don’t smoke)
・Passenger footwell storage net: Free option

For the headlights, I chose the LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS). In the 718 series, not choosing this option drastically changes the car’s expression, so I considered it essential.

Choosing the brake caliper color was also a tough decision. When selecting PCCB, the calipers usually come in yellow, but I felt that would be too much when paired with the Racing Yellow body color. So I deliberately chose the black high-gloss finish for a “at first glance you wouldn’t know it’s PCCB, but actually it is” mature style.

Total Cost and Impressions

Adding up all these options, the total cost of options reached 5.16 million yen. Combined with the base price, the total came to an astonishing 25.81 million yen.

However, considering that I will get a 718 Spyder RS customized exactly to my liking, I believe this investment is worth it. I can’t wait for the spring delivery.

Challenges and Considerations in Choosing Options

Choosing options for the 718 Spyder RS wasn’t just about picking what I liked; I had to consider the overall balance and personality of the car. Here are some other points I paid special attention to:

The high-gloss finish on the door release lever was something I regretted missing when I bought my previous GT3 Touring, so this time I made sure to include it. This greatly changes the impression when viewed from the side.

For the rear Porsche logo, I chose the silver high-gloss finish instead of the default black, which can be hard to read. This makes the logo clearly visible and serves as a rear accent.

Inside, to harmonize with the Racing Yellow body color, I unified the stitching, seat belts, and door pull loops in yellow. This creates a sense of unity between the exterior and interior.

Advice for Deciding Porsche Specs

When ordering a special model like the 718 Spyder RS, it’s important not only to consider your personal preferences but also the car’s characteristics and future resale value when choosing options.

And clarifying your concept is key. Whether you want a classic, sporty, or luxurious style, choosing options and colors that fit that concept is crucial. Starting to pick options simply because you like or dislike a color can result in a mismatched car.

Also, expensive options require careful consideration. For options costing hundreds of thousands to over a million yen—like the Weissach Package or PCCB brakes—you should thoroughly think about whether they’re truly necessary and how they affect the car’s value and performance before deciding.

Finally, if you’re unsure about options, it’s a good idea to consult Porsche Center staff or other Porsche owners. Getting advice from various perspectives will help you create a more satisfying specification.

The process of customizing this special 718 Spyder RS into my own unique car was challenging but extremely enjoyable.
I hope my experience can be of some help to those considering ordering one.

Lastly, I’m sharing the URL of my configuration for your reference.
