I Had No Idea About Porsche Until Now – What I Learned from Porsche’s Driving School

Our Car Life

Summary of Porsche Track Experience

Here are my thoughts after participating in the Porsche Track Experience (PTE) Precision program.

1. I Didn’t Know Porsche Yet

Even though I drive a Porsche almost every day, I deeply realized that “I still didn’t really know Porsche.” Modern Porsches are easier to drive, and even someone like me can enjoy driving them.

So, every time I drove, I felt “what a great car it is,” but I truly experienced that Porsche is a car with performance beyond anything I could have imagined.

This applies to handling, acceleration, suspension, stability… in many aspects. I learned it’s a car that can do so much more than I thought—many times over.

Whether you can unleash that potential depends entirely on the driver’s skill.

If I have the chance to drive such a fantastic Porsche, I want to improve my skills to maximize its performance. If I don’t, then I think, “there’s no need for me to drive a high-performance Porsche. Any other car would do.

2. Driving Skills Improve

I was taught about driving position, steering wheel placement and grip, weight transfer, pushing the steering wheel when cornering, and just being aware of these dramatically improved my driving. My husband often says,

“Like tennis or golf, every sport has a basic form. Driving is the same. You have to thoroughly internalize the basics first. If you don’t master the basics, you won’t get better at driving.

and I finally understood what he meant.

Of course, everyday driving isn’t motorsport, and if you just drive to get from A to B, you might not need to think that much. But if you’re driving a Porsche… a top-tier sports car… mastering the basics will let you enjoy it so much more.

On the way home from Shirahama, I consciously applied what I learned. I relaxed my grip on the steering wheel, fixed my back against the seat when cornering, and pushed the steering wheel. The result was smooth driving unlike my usual style, with no unnecessary tension in my body, making it very comfortable throughout.

3. Driving That’s Gentle on the Car

My husband often says, “Despite the mileage, the tire tread barely wears down,” which surprised the dealer’s maintenance staff, as I wrote about before. After attending PTE, I understood why.

Driving fast requires smooth, gentle inputs that don’t strain the car. The instructor often said, “Be smoother and gentler with the accelerator.” This kind of driving reduces stress on tires, accelerator, and brakes, which is ultimately kinder to the car and helps it last longer.

This applies to everything—pushing too hard isn’t good. The natural way is the best way.

4. Realizing It’s a Hobby Supported by Family

This time, unlike usual, my husband took care of our daughters the whole time, allowing me to participate in the program. Since our kids are still small, “kid issues” always come along wherever we go.

For me, a mother who feels this daily, having “a whole day to myself away from the kids to join the program” was a precious and grateful time. (Though I did worry about the bathroom or if they had any accidents, lol.)

Also, I’m grateful that “my husband let me participate using his first Porsche, the precious Boxster GTS.” Since I’m still a poor driver, there was a risk I might break the clutch or bump something, but he said, “Take the Boxster and go!” Thank you so much.

This day made me realize that enjoying a hobby is only possible with family support.

Porsche Track Experience – Highly Recommended!

For Porsche owners and enthusiasts, if possible, I highly recommend taking the Porsche Track Experience (PTE).

Of course, you can enjoy your Porsche without attending a driving school. Also, if you just want to drive for fun and don’t feel the need to go that far, there’s no pressure to join. The cost is also high at 137,500 yen (for Shirahama this time).

However, the program itself is very interesting, and immediately after attending, my driving changed and I enjoyed driving my Porsche even more. I understood why it sells out quickly after registration opens.

Buying a branded wallet or bag probably costs about the same, so why not invest that in PTE once? …Though I’m the type who wears Uniqlo all year round, so maybe I shouldn’t say that (lol).

Next year, I want to challenge the g-Force program!
