The strongest 911 GT2 RS Weissach package

I've written a lot of GT3 review articles so far,This is the first test drive article of GT2RS.

First of all, I would like to explain what kind of car is GT2 RS, which belongs to the category above GT3.

911 GT2 RS emblem

It is a sticker of the RS series model tradition, not an emblem like a normal model.

There are five types of Porsche GT series.

The famous GT3, the GT4 set for Cayman, the GT set for Cayenne, the GT1 of the legendary racing car (with public road specification car) that is no longer in production, and fill the gap between GT1 and GT3 Will be GT2.

It is the strongest model in the current 911,Although it is not a limited production, it is one of the models with very few production units.

As a feature,Further tuning of the 3.8L turbo engine installed in the 911 Turbo and Turbo SAnd on top of thatThe 911 that removed the four-wheel drive system in the 911 turbo system and made it rear-wheel drive (RR) is GT2become. In other wordsA car equipped with a 911 turbo engine on GT3You could say that.

The maximum output is 700ps! Since the Turbo S at that time was 580ps, it was up to 120ps or more. This willAccelerates from 0 to 100km / h in 2.8 seconds. It accelerates to a maximum speed of 200km / h and 340km / h in 8.3 seconds.

Of course, these catalog numbers are Porsche's usual, conservative values, and it's a terrifying performance considering that they are reliable values in any situation.

andThe lap time of the Nürburgring Nordschleife is an amazing 7 minutes. 6 minutes 47 seconds 3 is the fastest time in history among unmodified commercial vehicles at the momentis. This is a time that could only be achieved with a complete racing car a while ago, so you can see how fast it is.

A wide variety of carbon parts such as bonnets and front fenders, and this individualWeissach Package (Weissach is the name of the city where the Porsche development center is located)Therefore, it is 30kg lighter than the standard club sports package.

The main weight reduction points include the roof, front and rear stabilizers, and titanium bolt-fixed rear roll cages. In addition, this individual is also equipped with optional magnesium wheels, which is 11kg lighter.

In addition, theThis magnesium wheel could only be ordered in the initial lot orderThat's right, he said he couldn't choose in the late lot. Therefore, GT2RS equipped with magnesium wheels is also very rare.

Engine feeling

By the way, I'm going to do a test drive report with the above introduction.

The interior design is not much different from the other 911s in the late 991,Almost the same as GT3 RS and GT3is. Insert the key and start the engine.

The GT2 RS wakes up with a tremendous roar. This is a little surprising level.

Obviously louder than the same late 991 GT3,Especially the starting sound heard outside is by far the loudest Porsche in the last few yearsThe first is.

Speedometer is engraved up to 400km / h

Like the GT3, it is an AT (PDK) that does not have a creep phenomenon, so it starts while pushing the accelerator a little.

The feeling of rolling and touching the tires is almost the same as the GT3 in the latter half of 991.is. However, because it is a magnesium wheel and PCCB, I feel the lightness of the steering and the whole body. The ride is very comfortable as long as you are driving on a flat road surface at low speeds.

Of course, it shakes a little, so I don't recommend it for date cars and city use, but it is a comfortable ride for a genuine sports car.

This area is very similar to the late 991 GT3.

Even though it is a turbo engine, it has 3.8L, so it has enough low-speed torque even if it is not turbocharged.Even at the 2000 rpm level, there are no complaints that are common to high-performance turbo cars, and the ease of handling at low speeds similar to the 911 turbo system is alive and well. And from around 3000 rpm, I feel a wave of torque that seems to spring up.

However, this is just the beginning. The GT2 RS isn't showing its true character at all, as if you feel the waves of torque in the distance.

911GT2RS

I thought it was more of a Dokkan turbo system, but it wasn't that far. The curve of the torque rise that is proportional to the rotation is amazing, rather than the torque rising suddenly somewhere when the rotation goes up.

Moreover, the engine runs extremely lightly. The torque is thick even though it blows up lightly like an NA engine.

It would be appropriate to describe it as a GT3 with a turbo.

I had imagined that with such a large amount of power, it wouldn't be possible to turn it at all in winding roads, but that's not the case. Surprisingly, the gear ratio is low even though it is a car with such high torque. Especially the 2nd speed is low, and it can be turned moderately even in Japanese winding.

besidesSince the red zone is 7200 rpm, it is practically easier to turn than the GT3's 9000 rpm.It is. By the way, when I asked the owner,Although the rotation is smooth, the red zone is low, so it hits the rev immediatelyHe said.

However, even so, it is the strongest 911, GT2 RS. I can only step on the 2nd gear. To be honest, I feel scared when I try to step in 3rd gear. The combination of too much acceleration, rear-wheel drive, and the mental pressure of the vehicle price across the head,It is impossible unless it is a considerably large space such as stepping on the accelerator pedal firmlyIt is.

Every time I step on the accelerator, the load on the front is released, and although it is not called a wheelie, I feel a feeling close to that. Even the grip of the 325 / 30ZR21's extra-thick Dunlop Sport Maxx Race 2 is defeated, and the acceleration force makes it feel like the rear wheels wiggle from side to side.

In some places, it's a moment to feel a part of the hidden ferociousness.

"fast!"

At a slightly different speed, this intermediate acceleration power is Taycan Turbo's "Free hole? Although I lose the acceleration power that I thinkIsn't it the same level as McLaren's 720S and 650S?

handling

Regarding the manners and feelings in the corner,If I remember correctly, it's very similar to the late 991 GT3.Of course, I feel that the GT2RS is a lighter car, but I felt the same, such as how the gain rises when the steering is turned, the cornering posture, and the feedback from the road surface to the steering.

When you cut it, it bends as much as you cut it, and the tire catches the road surface and keeps it as if it bites from the middle of the corner.

And then...The theory of maneuvering by controlling the posture with just one method of applying torque to the rear wheels is exactly the traditional "911" itselfThe first is.

In addition, theTest drive of the latest 992 type GT3I have a new memory, so when I compare it with the steering feel, the feeling of ground contact at the front and the good steering response are still good.Controllability goes up to 992.So, if there is a 992 type GT2RS in the future, it's scary just to imagine.

Engine sound and drivability

I've gone through many curves and got used to the car a little, so calm down a little and check the sound and feeling.

GT2RS is "Goon! The sound is as if the beast barks, and the volume is quite loud. Besides, even in the low rev range, it is not extremely quiet like the GT3 of 991, and since the number of revolutions and the volume are moderately proportional, it is fun to drive from low revs.

Also, the bubbling sound when the accelerator is off is often made with a short feeling like "Bobo!" Or "Dodo!". but,This is different from the bubbling sound of 981 and 991, which is completely for directing purposes.

While sending a large amount of fuel to the engine, a part of the air-fuel mixture that was unavoidably discharged was burned by the heat of the muffler, it felt like the original bubbling sound, and it was a very natural feeling and I liked it. ..

Also, try opening the accelerator with a fixed 3rd speed from the low speed range. This is a method I often do to check the turbo lag of a turbo car, but in the case of GT2RS, it accelerates as it is even if it does not have a turbo because it has a certain displacement.

There is some turbo lag, but it's less than the 992 Carrera S engine,It is close to the small number of 992 Carrera engines.

Sohyo (General Council of Trade Unions of Japan)

Surprisingly, GT2RS seems to have surprisingly high daily drivability. At least in my sense, the ride quality may not be much different from GT3,It may be easy to use in daily life because of the ease of handling the engine in everyday life and the torque characteristics.I think.

911GT2RS

However, considering the body with a lot of carbon material on that big rear wing, it's hard to ride it every day.

also,This car should be used for circuits, vacant mountain roads, short touring, etc.I think it is.

The strongest 911 in history was a car that gave a glimpse of not only performance but also its drivability. However, when this ferocious beast seriously turns its fangs, it requires a certain amount of skill to put 700ps RR under control.

Only by getting over this can it be said that it is a "true Porsche ride".It was a car that seemed like that.
