Should You Opt for the Front Axle Lift on the Porsche 911 GT3?

GT3’s Front Axle Lift System

The other day, I received this question on the blog.

I’ve ordered the new Porsche GT3. Should I add the front lift option? It’s expensive, so I’m thinking of skipping it and spending on other options instead, but is it really tough to go without it?

That was the question.

The GT3’s front lift refers to the optional Front Axle Lift System.

Because the GT3 sits low, there’s a risk of scraping the underside even on small bumps. But with the Front Axle Lift System option, the new 911 GT3 raises the front end by 40mm at speeds up to 35 km/h (30mm on the 991 model).

This greatly reduces the risk of the car’s body hitting curbs or steep inclines.

Also, starting with the new 911 GT3, it includes a smart lift feature that automatically raises the front at registered locations. However, checking Porsche’s website, this option alone costs about 520,000 yen.

That’s pricey…(*_*)

Should You Get the Front Axle Lift System?

I asked my husband if we should get this Front Axle Lift System, and he said,

You need it. Absolutely need it! If you’re even slightly considering daily driving, it’s a must-have. If you’re only planning to “drive on the track,” maybe you don’t need it, but even then, think about refueling at gas stations—it’s better to have it.
Without the front lift, you’ll definitely scrape on even small bumps.
Not just convenience stores or gas stations, but even the curb when leaving our dealer’s lot—our GT3 without the lift scrapes there. (Though apparently, replacing the front lip isn’t too expensive.)
Also, while the Front Axle Lift System option is costly, it makes the car easier to sell later compared to one without it.
People buying a GT3 worry about scraping underneath, so a GT3 without the lift option affects resale value. In the long run, it’s worth having.

That’s what he said.

No Lift System Available for the GT4

I asked my husband, “Is it really that different when you press the switch and the front lifts a few centimeters? Is it noticeably better than not having it?”

Yeah, it’s totally different. For daily use, it’s mostly fine. If you go slowly over bumps at convenience stores or gas stations, it’s okay. You have to be careful in parking garages or on steep slopes, but unless it’s a really steep hill, it’s fine. Before buying, I thought I’d scrape a lot more, but actually owning it, I realized it’s surprisingly manageable.

By the way, my husband says “GT4 is nice too,” but he won’t buy one, partly because the GT4 doesn’t offer the Front Axle Lift System option.

He’s especially concerned about rough roads or big bumps on long-distance tours.

Makes sense…

Porsche options are expensive, so it’s often tough to decide whether to get them or not. It really depends on how you plan to use the car, so making the call is always tricky.

I’ve received many questions about options before, so I’ll continue sharing my husband’s answers and insights here on the blog.
