Porsche Owners File #19] 718 Cayman Purchase, Options and Driving Review

Porsche Cayman

2) MT / Manual Transmission

MT is hard to get used to.Clutch is heavy, shift is hard when putting it into reverse, and there is a lot of force trying to get it back into neutral. It is. However, once you get used to it, it is not a problem.

The short stroke shift feel is perfect, and the "A sense of manipulationIt's great to be able to enjoy the "no sprocket". Since it is a "no-sprocket" model, it does not have an auto blipper function, but this is not a problem at all for daily use shift changes.

Ride comfort / ride quality

No PASM, but thanks to the "standard 18"No uncomfortable thrusting with supple legs.I think it is sufficient to install PASM on "cars that want to be even more comfortable with standard 18-inch wheels" or "cars that are driven in a sport mode" or "cars with inch-up wheels".

Handling / Braking

Because it is a midship with excellent cornering performance.Winding is the quintessence. It's a good thing, isn't it? Nevertheless, just turning at each intersection in the city with a little bit of speed will give you a sense of human-horse unity that is unparalleled.

No PASM, no sport chassis, no PTV, no Spokuro, just "stock."The best feeling of lightness and natural feeling without electronic control intervention. It is.

The brakes are also stock, so they are a size smaller than the 718S, but I don't think this is a problem unless you are driving sports. I have never felt that the brakes are not effective enough in daily driving or on the highway.

(5) Fuel consumption / Maintenance

About 7 km/L in "Sport mode city driving" and 10 km/L in "Sport mode highway driving".It is about. I don't know because I don't run in normal mode. w

I have only had the car for two months and have had no problems with it, and I have no experience with maintenance or repairs.

(6) Reaction of family and surroundings

My parents and siblings would kill me if they knew. So, I have not told my family that I bought a Porsche.
My Subaruist friends are delighted every time I take them for a ride. They say it has the same rough Subaru sound as it used to have.
I use it to commute to work since I can only afford to have one ... but the reaction at work is either "envy or jealousy" at both ends of the spectrum.

(7) Favorite point

Front mask design. The suspension-type headlights give a more combative impression than those of the round-eyed 911, and the elongated indicator lights at both ends of the bumper are more distinctive than those of the 987 and 981, which had fog lights.I love the dynamic and sharp look.It is.

Personally, I prefer the normal front mask to the optional Sports Design Package because the moderate ride height and rounded form give an elegant impression.

(5) Options I would definitely want to add if I were to purchase a Porsche in the future.

interpoint (interword separation)GT Sport Steering
→I think the steering wheel should be smaller because it is a sports car after all....

interpoint (interword separation)Sport Tail Muffler
→I have recently come to think that the standard trapezoidal muffler might not be cool.

(6) Areas of concern

As many auto critics have already said.engine noiseIt is. Personally, I find it too rough and vulgar.

(7) General comments

It is said that Porsche is an option-oriented business, but if you add a lot of comfort-oriented options as a high-sophisticated car (a dead word) or a lot of driving performance options as a circuit machine, it is certainly expensive.

howeverEven a basic 718 with the minimum necessary options, like mine, is enough to experience the quintessential Porsche (dynamic quality).

The basic 718 MT without any driving performance options can be likened to "the ultimate bread and butter that only uses the original taste of the ingredients" or "simple is best.

8) What is Porsche to you?

〘Blog manager's opinion〙
No matter which Porsche model you buy, everyone says, "It rides and drives like a Porsche. The Cayman is said to be an "entry level" car, but don't be fooled, its performance is unmistakably Porsche, and when I drove it for the first time, I was amazed at its excellence. Thank you very much, Naija!

I am the one who wrote the owner's file #8. I read it very comically with relatively close specifications. I would like to comment in the hope that it will be helpful to readers.

The main difference from my 718 Cayman is only tires/wheels (my summer tires are 19" Advans and Naiya's are 18" Pirellis).
We seem to have almost the same impression about transmission, comfort/ride, handling/braking. As for fuel consumption, I am mainly using the normal mode, while Naija is mainly using the sport mode.

    however
    > The performance of the 2-liter engine of the basic model is so poor that even in Sport mode, the starting acceleration is dull when using the "MT without Sprocket".
    > The engine stalls easily if you are not careful, but once the car starts, the power, torque, and response are all excellent.

The MT of the 718 Cayman has a higher gear ratio, perhaps because the PDK has 7 gears and the MT has 6 gears, but the MT has a higher gear ratio in first gear, for example, and so requires more finesse in clutch engagement. Naturally, idling start is not fast at all. However, I did not find the starting acceleration to be dull. The best meet point for quick acceleration is around 2500 to 3000 rpm, and if you operate the clutch and throttle without losing rpm and then go to full throttle, you will be surprised at the acceleration and feel satisfied that you have successfully started the car. I was satisfied that I had successfully launched the car. At this level, the clutch does not move at all. Of course, it is not as good as Cayman S or 911, but even a plain Cayman sometimes spun the wheels at around 4000 rpm if the road condition was a little bad, so I think the performance of the tires was fully utilized.

As for options, the difference between the GT steering wheel and the normal steering wheel is in the outer diameter, but the major difference is that the sides of the spokes are chrome-finished for the normal steering wheel and matte black for the GT steering wheel.
