Don’t Photograph Your Own Porsche

Our Car Life

A Sunny Sunday at the East Rokko Observatory

Last weekend, we were at the East Rokko Observatory on Royu Driveway when we spotted a group of university students with DSLR cameras, snapping photos of the cars that had come up to the lookout. The weather was beautiful, and the place was filled with sports cars and supercars—Maseratis, Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and Porsches. The students were clearly excited, saying, “What a great day for car spotting!”

I thought, “They must really love cars,” and then realized they knew H, a friend of ours as a couple. While our kids played at the observatory, we had a quick chat. Later, I got a message on Twitter from one of the students:

“I searched my own name and found your account!!! I was just up at Royu (✿╹◡╹)”

Then she added:

“Your Panamera was so cool, and your kids were incredibly cute ( ◠‿◠ )!!! I took some photos of your car!!!! Hope that’s okay!”

“Oh, she took photos of our Panamera too! I’d love to see them!” I replied—and she sent over a whole batch of pictures.

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much… (sorry!) But when I saw the photos, I was amazed:

These are seriously good!! ( ゚д゚ )!!

The Panamera Photos She Sent Us

The edits were stylish, and the fresh compositions were beautiful—some angles I’d never have thought to try myself. She also sent photos of my husband’s Boxster, so I showed him. He was delighted:

“These came out really well! You’ve brought out everything that makes the Boxster great. Send them to me too!”

The Best Porsche Photos Come from Someone Else

It’s surprisingly hard to take great photos of your own car. Or, in my case, I usually fail miserably! My composition and photography skills are certainly part of the problem, but when you see your car every day, you can start to take it for granted—and lose sight of what makes it special.

That’s why an outside perspective can make all the difference: someone else may be able to capture your car’s character and bring out its appeal in a way you wouldn’t.

If you’re hoping to get photos of your car, head to Royu—if you’re in the Kansai area—and see if Aitan Kai @ConeManLP826 can take some for you. I highly recommend her! (laughs)

Aitan Kai, thank you so much!
