The Newly Announced 911 Carrera T: Will My Husband Buy It or Not?

Our Car Life

Introducing the New Carrera T

The new 911 Carrera T was announced recently.

Carrera

The Carrera T is a pure sports car that achieves lightweight and simplicity by stripping away various elements.

When the Carrera T was revived in 2017 with the 991 model, Porsche’s newsroom introduced it under the title “Less is more,” which left a strong impression. It truly is a genuine 911.

By the way, when the 991 Carrera T was released, the promotional video was so cool that my husband watched it almost every day, saying, “So cool—this is awesome!” But when he found out that only the PDK transmission was available in Japan, he grumbled,

No way… After all that excitement in the video about the joy of driving the Carrera T with a manual transmission, only PDK is coming to Japan… They really don’t understand what the Carrera T is all about.

So, I asked him how he feels about this new Carrera T, and he said,

Well… this time, the available specs and options are pretty limited. The charm of the Carrera T was that you could choose options usually reserved for S grade or higher, but this time, you can’t get PDCC or PCCB. Also, since T stands for Touring, I personally want to enjoy it with a slightly more luxurious setup. But this model only offers three wheel options, no beige interior, and the chassis is limited to PASM sports suspension. The choices are just too few… If the rear axle had the standard PASM chassis and PDCC, it could be the perfect touring car to enjoy the raw Carrera engine with S-grade equipment… so I think I won’t buy it.

Carrera T Configuration Specs

That said, my husband thinks it’s an “affordable and good model” since the Sport Chrono Package, Sport Exhaust System, and PASM Sports Suspension come standard, and the number of units coming to Japan will be limited, making it a rare car.

By the way, he sent me a configuration he thought would be good if “I, a woman, were to buy one,” and here it is:

– Carmine Red
– Standard Interior (Black)
– Adaptive Sport Seats (18-way electric adjustment) with Memory Package
– Rear Seats
– Tilt/Slide Electric Sunroof
– Removal of the “911 Carrera T” logo on the front doors
– 7-speed Manual Transmission
– Front Axle Lift System
– Rear Axle Steering
– 20/21-inch Carrera S Wheels (High Gloss Titanium Grey)
– LED Headlights including Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus)
– Lightweight Sound-Insulating Privacy Glass
– Lane Change Assist
– Front Seat Ventilation
– Heated GT Sport Leather Steering Wheel

Key points are:

– Since the PASM sports suspension lowers the ride height by 10mm, it’s better to have the front lift (there are several spots nearby where even my Swift Sport scrapes the bottom)
– Rear seats are essential if you’re moving with three kids (though keeping it a two-seater is more T-like)
– Rear axle steering is an option not available on the base Carrera, so it’s worth adding
– Considering rarity, the left-hand manual is preferable

That said, thinking about resale value, black or white might be better than red, and since my current car (Swift Sport) is manual, I wonder if I really want another manual…

Whether you consider resale value or choose the specs you truly want to drive makes all the difference, and I’m reminded once again how complicated and challenging it is to buy a Porsche these days.
