My Husband Answers Your Questions About Washing Our Porsche

The other day, after sharing how my husband washes our Porsche and the car care products he uses, we received many comments and messages. Thank you all so much! Later, I asked my husband again about the questions we received, so today I’d like to share his answers along with the questions.
Brake Dust Water Inside the Wheels
The first question we got was this:
When using a high-pressure washer on the wheels, water gets inside the brake rotors. After cleaning the inside of the wheels until they’re sparkling, once I drive, brown brake dust water splashes inside the wheels, which is always disappointing. Am I not washing enough, or is there any way to prevent this? Please share your advice.
Here’s my husband’s answer:
“To really clean the inside of the wheels thoroughly, you’d have to remove the wheels to wash them properly. So, I don’t wash the inside at all. Also, if you start driving immediately after washing, the brake dust water might be less of an issue. I think the brown water comes from the brake rotors rusting. By the way, with PCCB brakes, there was no dirt or brown water at all.”
Wiper Squeaking
Next question was:
You mentioned applying a water-repellent coating to the windshield, but do the wipers squeak? I recently applied a water repellent product (Soft 99’s Rain Drop), but the wipers squeak terribly and it’s frustrating. I’d like to know how to deal with this.
My husband’s response was:
“It depends on the shape of the windshield, so even with proper care, sometimes the squeaking can’t be fully fixed. The key points are the surface preparation before applying the glass coating and the wiping process after applying the coating. In other words, during preparation, you need to carefully wipe until the glass is completely free of any dirt or water spots, and after applying the coating, you must wipe thoroughly to keep the windshield smooth. Even a slight unevenness can cause the wipers to chatter and squeak.
If it still squeaks after careful work, try switching the washer fluid from the standard one to a water-repellent type. When the wipers start squeaking, think of the washer fluid as reducing friction. Water-repellent washer fluids usually maintain the glass’s water repellency better and often contain silicone, which helps keep the wiper movement smooth.”
Bug Remains and Stubborn Dirt After Highway Driving
The next question was:
How do you remove stubborn dirt like bug remains and tar? After driving on the highway at night in summer, a lot of bug remains stick to the front bumper, and I find it difficult to remove them with just a shampoo wash. How do you handle this?
My husband’s reply was:
“For this, washing the car as soon as possible is best. Our Cayenne got into the same state once, and when we couldn’t wash it for about a week, it became really hard to remove. So ideally, washing the next day or as soon as possible is most effective. Also, if the coating is still fresh after delivery, it helps a lot with removal, so it might depend on the coating too.”
Everyone’s Car Washing Methods
Besides questions, we also received comments about car washing, so I’d like to share some of them.
Kärcher and Silk Dryer
They use a German-made Kärcher pressure washer, choosing the K2 Silent model so the noise doesn’t bother neighbors. With a properly coated car, just rinsing with water can make it very clean, so the Kärcher is very convenient.
As for the recommended Silk Dryer, I also bought the M size and was amazed by its water absorption. After wiping with the Silk Dryer, I use a blower to blow off water from places towels can’t reach, like side mirrors, around lights, and panel gaps.
Pure Water System and Silk Dryer
They also use a pure water system, but since they want to wipe before the water dries, the Silk Dryer is an essential item especially in this season. They’ve been using it for almost two years with no noticeable wear. It absorbs so much water that sometimes they even spin it in the washing machine to wring it out (laughs).
Reading everyone’s car washing methods really shows their love for their cars—it’s impressive. Especially washing in the hot summer with mosquitoes around must be tough. If there are any updates on my husband’s washing methods, I’ll share them in future articles.
