New Cayenne Coupé
Porsche officially announced the launch of the Cayenne Coupé at the world premiere held in Stuttgart on March 21. This marks the addition of a coupé model to the third generation of the Cayenne.
The Cayenne Coupé incorporates all the technological highlights of the new Cayenne released last year, with further advancements and a more dynamic design as its key features.
A Sportier Design
The Cayenne Coupé features a smoother roofline flowing towards the rear, positioning it as a more dynamic and sporty model compared to the standard Cayenne.
The distinctive coupé silhouette is emphasized by the roof spoiler, while the front windshield and A-pillars are designed to be shallower than those of the Cayenne. The roof edge is about 20mm lower, and redesigned rear doors and fenders widen the shoulder line by 18mm, giving the vehicle a more muscular appearance overall.
The rear license plate is integrated into the bumper, making the vehicle’s center of gravity appear lower.
The current Cayenne Turbo features an electrically adjustable active spoiler under the rear window that operates based on speed, and the same system is applied to the roof spoiler on all Cayenne Coupé models.
The new adaptive rear spoiler is equipped with the Porsche Active Aerodynamics system (PAA). The spoiler extends by 135mm at speeds above 90 km/h to increase downforce on the rear axle, while the PAA system simultaneously enhances downforce efficiency.
The new Cayenne Coupé comes standard with a 2.16㎡ panoramic fixed glass roof, which can be covered with a roller blind to block sunlight and cold. The roof’s center seam, similar to that on the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, gives it a distinctive look.
The lightweight sports package includes a carbon roof, Sport Design features, new lightweight 22-inch GT-design wheels, classic check fabric seat centers, carbon and Alcantara interior accents, and a sports exhaust system.
For comparison, here is the side profile of the standard Cayenne.
And here is the Cayenne Coupé.
Indeed, the roofline is smoother and sportier. Next, the Cayenne viewed from a rear three-quarter angle.
And the Cayenne Coupé from the same angle.
The Cayenne Coupé looks really cool! Honestly, just looking at the rear taillight area, it starts to remind me of the Panamera, haha.
Is the Cayenne Coupé a 4-Seater?
The article mentions that the Cayenne Coupé comfortably seats four, with two individual rear seats, so it appears to be a standard 4-seater. Despite being 30mm lower and having a sportier, lower silhouette than the Cayenne, there is still ample space in the rear seats.
However, since it says “as standard,” it seems that a 4+1 seating option might be available. My husband checked the German Porsche configurator and found that the 4+1 seating option can be selected (possibly free of charge?).
Honestly, we won’t know for sure until it arrives in Japan.
The trunk capacity is 625 liters, which is ample for everyday use. Folding down the rear seats increases the capacity to 1,540 liters. (The Cayenne Turbo Coupé ranges from 600L to 1,510L).
Regarding the Cayenne Coupé’s engine lineup, two models are confirmed for the market. First, the standard model with a 3.0L 6-cylinder turbo engine producing 340 PS and 450 Nm of torque (?), and the Cayenne Turbo Coupé model with a 4.0L V8 twin-turbo engine delivering 550 PS and 770 Nm of torque.
The Cayenne Turbo Coupé apparently shares the same powertrain as the Panamera Turbo.
Standard equipment includes power steering plus, 20-inch alloy wheels, front and rear park assist with rearview camera, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), and the Sport Chrono package.
The Cayenne Coupé is available for order immediately in its home market, with sales starting at the end of May. I wonder when test drives and reservations will be possible in Japan.
By the way, my husband is quite interested in this Cayenne Coupé (since he really liked the new Cayenne he test drove last year), and keeps muttering:
“If the Cayenne Coupé comes out, I want one… maybe swap it with the Panamera…”
What will happen remains to be seen! I’m looking forward to future announcements, including the timing of the Cayenne Coupé’s arrival in Japan.
