Attaching Grill Badges to Our Porsche 911 GT3 and Air-Cooled 964

Porsche Grill Badges
The other day, a package arrived from overseas addressed to my husband. When we opened it, inside was a Porsche grill badge. Now that I think about it, I’ve seen Porsches with these badges at the Royu Driveway observatory before.
When I asked my husband about it, he said he had often seen Porsches with these badges on social media and thought, “That’s so cool, I want one on my Porsche too.”
But honestly, putting something like this on the car gives off a strong Porsche-enthusiast vibe… well, I guess he’s already a full-on Porsche geek anyway (laughs).
Apparently, this grill badge that arrived is a limited edition, and sometimes it even sells at a premium on Yahoo Auctions and the like. My husband found it on an American website for about 10,000 yen and went through the trouble of ordering it from the US.
By the way, this grill badge for the 911 (991) was limited to 2,015 pieces, and ours is serial number 1196.
This one features the Martini Racing design, limited to 1,971 pieces, and ours is serial number 192.
My husband decided to attach the 911 badge to the GT3 and the Martini Racing badge to the air-cooled Porsche 964.
Let’s Attach Grill Badges to the Porsche
After the grill badges arrived, my husband immediately said, “I’m going to put these on the cars now!” and headed to the driveway at home. But even after an hour, then two hours, he hadn’t come back. I wondered if he went for a drive after attaching them… but soon enough, he returned.
He said it took two hours to attach both badges (laughs). According to him,
The GT3’s grill mesh is thin, so it was easy to attach, but the 964’s grill fins are thick, and the included screws were too short, which made it tough. I had to stick one hand under the grill holding tiny bolts and washers, and screw from above—it was really difficult. I dropped bolts and washers into the engine bay multiple times and had to fish them out with a fiberscope, so it took a lot of time (laughs).
If it were me, I’d probably give up if it was that hard… (-_-) And here are the grill badges after all that effort.
They really give off that Porsche enthusiast vibe, don’t they? (lol) About these badges, my husband said,
Originally, grill badges tend to be limited edition event items or from owners’ clubs, and the more you engage with the community, the more badges you accumulate like battle scars. The badges we attached this time aren’t from events but genuine Porsche parts, so it’s a subtle customization. Personally, I’m not one to do unnecessary modifications, but badges can be removed if you get tired of them, so I gave it a try. At first, I kept noticing the badges and felt they stood out oddly, but after a while, they blended naturally with the car’s design.
If you’re interested, why not give it a try too? (laughs)
