Why I, a Blogger, Bought an iMac in Addition to My MacBook Air

Am I a Blogger?
Recently, I realized something: I am a blogger.
Huh, only now? (-_-)
My Twitter handle is “Mina – Porsche Blogger,” but I chose that name simply to make it clear that I write about Porsche, not because I really saw myself as a blogger.
When I think of bloggers, I picture famous mom bloggers or people like Ikeda Hayato—those who are almost celebrities. I always thought I was completely different from them.
For me, blogging was just a way for someone like me, who relatively enjoys writing, to share my Porsche life.
However, lately, many people around me have pointed out that I really am a blogger in the common sense, and I’ve come to accept that fact. (A bit late, I know! lol)
I’m a MacBook Air Fan
So today, I want to talk about the computer I use as a blogger. The computer I usually write my blog on is a MacBook Air. Ten years ago, I was a complete Windows fan, but when my beloved PC broke down, I thought,
People with Macs look like they know what they’re doing and look cool. Maybe I should try a Mac once.
I bought one on a whim, and since then, I haven’t been able to go back.
Back then, I often had to create presentation materials for work, and I was captivated by how great Apple’s Keynote presentation software felt to use and how stylish the presentations looked.
That said, recently I’ve had fewer chances to make presentations, and I mostly use my computer for writing blogs, checking emails, and other miscellaneous tasks. So, for a blogger like me, this MacBook Air alone should have been more than enough.
But guess what? I just bought an iMac (desktop)!
Why I Bought an iMac
The trigger was video editing, which I started in July. Video files are huge, so as I stored footage on my computer, the free space quickly ran out. The first time I made a video, I ran out of storage so fast that I couldn’t save the video (and lost the data once). My husband gave me a 250GB external HDD (hard disk drive), and I managed to keep editing.
But that HDD filled up quickly too… so next, I bought a 2TB HDD on Amazon. With 2TB, I have plenty of space for now. Still, HDDs require care.
I was always worried, “What if the data gets lost from a shock?” or “What if the kids drop it while playing?” Plus, it’s annoying to carry the HDD around the room while connected to the computer. Seeing this, my husband said,
Seriously, no one edits videos on a MacBook Air laptop (lol). You should definitely get a desktop iMac. It has more storage, you can add more when you buy it, and editing on a big screen with a mouse is way easier!
“That’s true, but it’s expensive… (-_-)”
My husband would probably buy an iMac without hesitation, but for me, spending nearly 200,000 yen means I have to think carefully. So for two months, I researched whether it was really worth buying now, if I’d regret it, and which model to get.
Then recently, Apple announced the iPhone 11 but didn’t announce a new iMac (which was expected). After seeing that, I thought, “There’s no point waiting, I’ll just buy it now!” and decided to purchase.
By the way, I bought:
– 21.5-inch Mac: 142,800 yen (tax excluded)
– 3.6GHz quad-core processor, 1TB storage, Retina 4K display
– Added 16GB DDR4 memory: +22,000 yen
iMac Is Great!
My iMac came all the way from China. It arrived about a week after ordering, much earlier than expected. The box was huge, and when I took it out and put it on my desk, the monitor was bigger than I imagined.
21.5 inches is plenty. When I turned it on, I was amazed at how beautiful the Retina 4K display was. Even though the MacBook Air’s screen I usually use isn’t bad, it’s no comparison.
Then I tried editing a video on the iMac, and it was incredibly easy. The big screen lets me check every detail, and my eyes don’t get tired.
It’s not just for video editing; it’s also great for writing blogs.
I wish I had bought it sooner…
So, having made this investment, I’m going to work even harder on blogging and video editing from now on!
