Picking Up My Daughter from Kindergarten in the Panamera

It was raining today. Lately, I’ve been trying to walk to pick up my daughter from kindergarten, but with the rain, I decided to take the Panamera instead. When I arrived, she kept rubbing her eyes and saying they hurt, so on the way home we stopped at a convenience store for snacks and then at a pharmacy to pick up some eye drops for kids.

A convenience store and a pharmacy… This is definitely not what the Panamera Turbo was made for (-_-)

With a top speed of 306 km/h and a 0–100 km/h time of 3.8 seconds, its performance was completely wasted…

There’s a pretty steep hill near our house, so the car needed a bit of power to climb it. Maybe I got to use about 1% of the Panamera Turbo’s potential before we made it home. Then I glanced at the fuel economy display—and couldn’t help blurting out, “Wow… seriously?”

Fuel economy: 4.0 km/L.

What’s more, the fuel economy display won’t show anything below 4.0 km/L, so I suspect the actual figure might be somewhere in the 3-point-something range. People often joke that a car is “pouring gasoline straight onto the road,” but could there actually be a hole somewhere, with fuel just leaking out…? The brochure lists urban fuel economy at 7.7–7.8 km/L. That’s nearly twice what I’m getting. Is my driving really that bad, or is it because our town has so many traffic lights and hills?

Either way, bad fuel economy is bad fuel economy (-_-)

Next week, the family and I are taking the Panamera Turbo to Kyushu for a hot-spring getaway (we’ll take the ferry to get there). I’m looking forward to the drive, and I’ll be keeping an eye on the overall fuel economy, too.

…Wait, no! If you’ve bought a Panamera Turbo, fuel economy shouldn’t be on your mind! People may say it goes against today’s eco-conscious times or that it’s bad for the environment, but the Panamera Turbo is a car to enjoy to the fullest without worrying about fuel consumption!

So next week, I’m going to give the engine a good workout and really enjoy the drive!
