Porsche 911 Vehicle Inspection

I purchased a used Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS (991 early model) last September, and since then, I’ve driven nearly 10,000 km, bringing the total to about 41,000 km.

And now, this April marks the 7th-year vehicle inspection since its first registration in 2015.

So glad to have found a GTS with 5-lug wheels!

Since I have an extended warranty, I decided to have the usual Porsche dealer take care of the inspection this time as well.

Last month, after running at Fuji Speedway, I asked for a thorough check, requesting at minimum an oil and oil filter change, and also asked them to reinstall the Porsche genuine wheel spacers originally fitted to this car (they had been removed during the previous inspection to check the car in its normal state), then left the car with them.

Maintenance Items This Time

A few days later, I received details of the maintenance work and an accurate estimate.

The main maintenance items were as follows:

  • Engine oil change
  • Oil filter replacement
  • Brake fluid replacement
  • Air conditioning filter replacement (both interior and exterior)
  • Engine air cleaner replacement
  • Spark plug replacement
  • Drive belt replacement

In addition, this time they also performed an alignment check due to the timing.

The brake pad thickness was 9mm front, 7mm rear, and tire tread depth was 4.5mm both front and rear. For some reason, whether it’s AWD, RR, or MR, I tend to wear the front and rear tires evenly (with little bias).

It’s not that the front wears out more, but rather that I tend to drive in a way that causes less rear tire wear.

Inspection Cost

And the total cost for this vehicle inspection was 327,964 yen. Of that, taxes and fees amounted to 46,210 yen, so roughly 280,000 yen went toward labor and parts.

Whether you consider this expensive or reasonable depends on the individual, and it’s probably possible to reduce costs further, but I hope this serves as a useful reference for the inspection cost of a 911.
