Why I Bought an iMac to Add to My MacBook Air

Am I a Blogger?
It’s taken me a while to realize something: I’m a blogger.
Wait, you’re only figuring that out now (-_-)?
My Twitter name is “Mina – Porsche Blogger,” but I chose it simply to make it clear that I write about Porsche. I hadn’t really thought of myself as a blogger.
That’s because when I hear the word “blogger,” I picture people who are practically celebrities in their own right—like famous mommy bloggers or Hayato Ikeda. I’ve always thought of myself as completely different from them.
To me, a blog was simply a convenient way for someone who enjoys writing to share stories about life with a Porsche.
But lately, people around me have made me realize that, by the usual definition, I really am a blogger. So I’ve finally come to accept it. (Only took me long enough! lol)
I’m a MacBook Air Fan
So today, I’m talking about the computer I use as a blogger. My go-to computer for writing blog posts is a MacBook Air. Ten years ago, I was a dedicated Windows user. Then my trusty computer broke, and I decided to give a Mac a try.
People with Macs look like they know what they’re doing—and that’s pretty cool. Maybe I’ll try one for once.
I bought one on a whim, and I’ve never looked back.

At the time, my job involved creating a lot of presentation materials. I fell in love with Keynote, Apple’s presentation software, because it was so easy to use—and because it let me create such polished-looking presentations.
These days, I rarely make presentations. I mostly use my computer to write blog posts, check email, and take care of a few other things. So, for a blogger like me, one Mac should have been more than enough…
And yet, I’ve just bought an iMac—a desktop!

Why I Bought an iMac
It all started when I began editing videos in July. Video files take up a ton of space, so my computer’s storage filled up in no time. When I made my first video, I ran out of space almost immediately and couldn’t save it. (I even lost the data once.) My husband gave me a 250GB external HDD (hard drive), which let me keep editing for a while.
But that drive filled up quickly, too, so I bought a 2TB HDD on Amazon. With 2TB, I had plenty of room for now. Still, using an external hard drive made me nervous.
I kept worrying: “What if a bump wipes out my data?” “If the kids knock it off the table, all that work will be gone.” And it was a nuisance to carry my laptop around the house with the HDD plugged in. My husband took one look at the situation and said:
Honestly, who edits videos on a MacBook Air? lol You should definitely get a desktop iMac. It has plenty of storage, and you can add more when you buy it. Plus, editing with a mouse on a big screen is so much easier!
“I know, but still… it’s expensive (-_-).”
My husband could probably buy an iMac without a second thought, but for me, spending close to ¥200,000 means thinking it through carefully. So, for the past two months, I’d been researching everything: Is now really the right time to buy? Will I regret it? And which model should I choose?
Then Apple announced the iPhone 11, but there was no iMac announcement (not that anyone was expecting one). Once I’d seen that, I thought, “There’s no point waiting, so I’ll just buy one now!” And that’s what I did.
Here are the specs of the model I bought:
・21.5-inch iMac: ¥142,800 (before tax)
・3.6GHz quad-core processor, 1TB storage, Retina 4K display
・Added 16GB of DDR4 memory: +¥22,000

I Love My iMac!
My iMac made the long journey from China. It arrived about a week after I ordered it, well ahead of schedule. The box was huge, and when I unpacked it and set it on my desk, the screen looked even bigger than I’d expected.

The 21.5-inch screen is plenty big for me. When I switched it on, I was amazed by how beautiful the Retina 4K display looked. The screen on my MacBook Air is perfectly good, but there’s really no comparison.

I tried editing a video on the iMac, and it was so much easier. The large screen makes it easy to check every detail of the footage, and my eyes don’t get as tired.

And it’s not just great for video editing—it’s also a joy to use for writing blog posts.
Honestly, I wish I’d bought one sooner…
Now that I’ve made the investment, I’ll keep working hard on the blog and my video editing!
