Choosing a Color for My 911

The other day, I wrote about ordering a 911.

Ever since I started this blog, I’ve written that “my goal is to buy a Porsche with my own money someday.” So I’ve received lots of messages from readers.

Some of you have been following the blog since the early days and told me, “I’m as happy as if it were happening to me!” I’m so grateful for your warmth and support. Thank you.

I can’t share the exact model or specification just yet, but today I’d like to tell you which body color I chose.

Why I Chose a Crayon Porsche 911

As the title of this blog post gives away, I chose “Crayon” for the body color. So, let me share the colors I considered and why I ultimately went with Crayon.

1. Guards Red

Some of you may be thinking, “Wait, hasn’t Mina always said she was going to buy a bright red Porsche?”

In fact, even back when it was only a dream, I spent a long time configuring a 911 in Guards Red, thinking, “If I buy one…”

Whenever I browsed 911s on CarSensor, I filtered for red cars, too. And my current car, a Suzuki Swift Sport, is red.

But when it came time to actually buy a Porsche, I started thinking more practically about things like resale value. I began to wonder, “Is red really the right choice…?”

“I might keep the car for a long time, but I might sell it someday, too. I could buy it and then find I can’t afford to keep it, leaving me with no choice but to sell. Considering resale value, should I really choose red?
But if I don’t choose the red I’ve always dreamed of, will I regret it later?”

And so on.

I’d often said things like, “In Japan, most people choose white or black for their car. But if you’re buying a sports car, why not pick a bolder color?” Easy enough to say—until I had to make the choice myself. When it came down to it, I got cold feet (sorry…).

These days, I have nothing but respect for people who go for a Porsche in a bold, vivid color. lol

2. Jet Black Metallic

When I thought about resale value, I figured white or black would be the safer bet, so next I chose Jet Black Metallic.

There’s no denying it: the car looked fantastic from every angle.

Still, I wondered if black might lose some of the feeling of a Porsche driven by a woman. “Even so, it looks great, and it should hold its value well.” I sent my configuration in Jet Black Metallic to H, my contact at the Porsche Center (PC), and got this reply:

“Are you sure you’d like black? I was sure you were going to choose red, so I just wanted to check.”

“Wait! Now that you’ve said that, maybe I should go with red after all!” My mind changed all over again, and I switched back to Guards Red for a while. lol

3. Crayon

Then my husband happened to get the chance to take a friend’s 911 for a test drive. When he got home, the first thing he said was:

“That Crayon 911 is seriously cool!!! My GT3 was Crayon, too, so I thought it might be a bit much for our next 911 to be the same color—maybe red would be better. But Crayon really is unbeatable!
It should hold its value well, too. And a woman driving a Crayon 911? That’s incredibly cool!”

That sent my thoughts spinning again. After seeing photos and checking the color in the configurator, I had to admit that Crayon looked fantastic.

I’d been agonizing over the decision, but somehow, it suddenly clicked: “Ah, it has to be Crayon.” After going back and forth so many times, I finally settled on Crayon for the body color.

Looking back, it was a strangely wonderful feeling.
