Maintenance Costs of the Porsche GT3

The other day, I received a question: “It’s said that the maintenance costs for the GT3 are higher than those for the 911 Carrera, but what exactly is more expensive and by how much?

So, I asked my husband what he thought about it.

Hmm… So far, I don’t really feel that the GT3 is significantly more expensive to maintain compared to the 911 Carrera. However, if you frequently drive on the track, you’ll need to change the oil more often, which would increase costs. Also, my GT3 is equipped with PCCB brakes, and if you need to replace those, it can cost in the millions of yen… Maybe that’s why people think the GT3’s maintenance costs are higher than the 911 Carrera’s.

That’s what he said.

Porsche 911 GT3 Touring Package

Our GT3 Touring (late 911 model) was delivered in May 2019, and it’s now been about a year and a half. The mileage is around 10,700 km. During this time, we’ve had two oil changes and one 12-month statutory inspection done at the dealer.

The first oil change was after the break-in period. The second oil change was done just before running at Suzuka Circuit after a recent long-distance touring trip. Each oil change cost about 30,000 yen. The 12-month statutory inspection cost just under 90,000 yen.

Looking at it this way, I really don’t feel the GT3 is that expensive to maintain.

Fuel Economy of the GT3

Later, I asked my husband about the GT3’s fuel economy.

Well, when you drive on the track, the gas disappears quickly. The other day, I ran two 30-minute sessions at Suzuka Circuit, and the fuel was almost empty afterward. That said, when we go touring, including highway and mountain roads, the fuel economy is about 8-9 km/l. For comparison, the 992 Cabriolet gets around 10-11 km/l, so the GT3’s fuel economy isn’t that bad.

That’s what he said.

Since our GT3 has only been with us for a year and a half, it hasn’t gone through its first inspection yet, and we haven’t had any major issues requiring parts replacement. So, I don’t feel that its maintenance costs are significantly higher than other Porsches. But I wonder if that will change as we continue to own it for 3 or 5 years. I plan to keep sharing updates on this topic as time goes on.
