I Tried Writing a Panamera Blog in English

The other day, I wrote a post about trying my hand at an English-language Panamera blog. On November 29, I actually wrote my first post. Well, I didn’t have to come up with a new topic—I decided to translate my existing blog posts into English, one by one—but it still took a surprising amount of time.

First, I ran the whole thing through Google Translate, and it did a better job than I expected. I figured it could handle about 70 percent of the English draft.

But my original Japanese included expressions like “Seriously?!” (laughs) and “You idiot!”, and Google wasn’t exactly great at capturing that kind of tone… (No surprise there.)

So I ended up checking each sentence online to see if it sounded right—(Weblio usually came up)—and comparing example sentences before revising it bit by bit. It was a pretty substantial job. I cut anything that felt impossible to translate, but even so, it took two hours to finish one post.

Whoa! Two hours!! ( ゚∀゚)・∵. グハッ!

So, How Many Visits Did It Get?

Between raising kids, working, and keeping up with the housework, my free time is precious—so I couldn’t believe I’d spent a full two hours on one post…! Partway through, I wondered, “Is this really worth the effort? (-_-)/” But I gave myself a pep talk: I wanted to build a blog that Panamera fans around the world could enjoy. Somehow, I got it published, shared it in English on Twitter, and even added some hashtags.

So, how did that English post—which took two hours to write—do after six days online? The number of visits was… well…

…

…

“3”!!

Just “3” visits in six days! ( ゚∀゚)・∵. !!!(That works out to just 0.5 visits a day! Ha!)

And I’m pretty sure all three were me. Well, I guess that’s how it goes at the beginning. I’ll keep at it and try to post little by little.

As of April 2018, I’m no longer writing the English blog… Sorry…
