Manthey Kit for the 992.2 GT3 Finally Hits the Japanese Market

In April 2026, the Manthey kit for the latest 992.2 generation 911 GT3 officially became available for purchase in Japan. The starting price is 9,408,300 yen. Both buying and installation are limited to select Porsche Centers certified by Manthey in Japan. These authorized dealers are designated by Porsche Japan, meaning the kit isn’t something you can pick up anywhere.

The effects of the kit are crystal clear. A 992.2 GT3 equipped with the Manthey kit completed the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 6 minutes 52.981 seconds. The stock 992.2 GT3 lapped it in 6 minutes 59.927 seconds, so the Manthey upgrade shaved about 7 seconds off that 20.8 km circuit. Such an improvement isn’t achievable with ordinary tuning. And crucially, the engine remains completely untouched. This result is achieved solely through aerodynamic, suspension, and brake enhancements.

It’s important to note that the 9,408,300 yen price tag covers only the base kit. Optional lightweight forged wheels from Manthey add several hundred thousand yen, as do racing brake pads for the PCCB system and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires approved for the kit — plus installation labor costs. Based on pricing structures in the U.S., a fully equipped package could easily reach around 12 million yen. So, 9.4 million yen is just the entry-level figure.

Who Exactly Is Manthey?

Let’s start with the basics: Who is Manthey?

Manthey Racing was founded in 1996 by Olaf Manthey, a former racing driver, in Germany. Olaf Manthey had proven results driving in Porsche Carrera Cup, the German Touring Car Championship (DTM), and the VLN Nürburgring Endurance Series. After retiring, he combined his racing experience and technical expertise to establish the company in Meuspath, a town right next to the Nürburgring. In short, Manthey is a company born and bred literally in front of the Nürburgring.

One landmark moment that brought global attention to Manthey was the “MR” spec Porsche 911 GT2 RS, which managed an astounding Nürburgring lap time of 6 minutes 40.3 seconds. For a modified car based on a street-legal model, this was among the world’s fastest at the time, rewriting what was considered possible for production-based cars.

In 2013, Porsche acquired 51% of Manthey’s shares, making it part of the Porsche Group. Since 2021, Manthey has been elevated to Porsche’s official motorsport partner, and its tuning kits have been sold under the “Manthey Kit” badge through Porsche Tequipment (official accessories). In other words, Manthey has transitioned from an external tuner to a “semi-internal” tuner fully integrated into Porsche. This is a critically important detail.

What Changes Come with the Manthey Kit?

Let’s dive into what the Manthey kit actually modifies.

Starting with aerodynamics: for the 992.2 GT3, the front lip extends by 12 mm, and the front underfloor is smoothed out. At the rear, there’s a large carbon fiber swan-neck wing, a Gurney flap, enlarged endplates, and carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) rear diffuser fins. Additionally, carbon aero discs cover the rear wheels. All these changes combine to generate a maximum downforce of 540 kg at 285 km/h. This isn’t just a figure; it translates to a sensation of the car literally sticking to the ground.

Suspension upgrades include aluminum coilovers with four-stage, tool-free adjustable damping. Spring rates are subtly altered: +20% front and −7% rear, a seemingly unbalanced setting that actually proves effective at the Nürburgring. The brake lines are upgraded to stainless steel mesh for a sharper pedal feel. The powertrain is left untouched—this package focuses, above all, on sharpening cornering, braking, and traction rather than increasing horsepower.

As a result, laps at Nürburgring drop to 6 minutes 52.981 seconds with the Manthey kit installed. For comparison, the GT3 RS clocks 6 minutes 49.328 seconds there. A regular-body 992.2 GT3 without roll cage or wide-body mods comes within fractions of a second of the RS’s time. The biggest value proposition here is that the car looks almost stock but drives closer to an RS on the inside.

Porsche: Built From the Start to Run on Circuits Stock

Now, here’s the core message I truly want to convey.

Many sports cars on the market are not designed to reliably run on circuits straight from the factory. After a few laps, coolant and oil temperatures spike, brakes fade. This forces typical sports car owners who want to track their cars seriously to add oil coolers, larger radiators, aftermarket brake pads, and sometimes rotors. Only then can these cars handle multiple laps properly.

Porsche is fundamentally different. Whether it’s GT3, GT4, or models I’ve driven like the Carrera 4 GTS, 991.2 GT3 Touring, or my current 718 Spyder RS and Taycan Turbo GT, they can all be taken to the track stock without modification. I’ve personally driven Porsches on circuits such as Suzuka, Okayama International, and Fuji Speedway many times in completely stock form. Temperatures remain stable, brake pedal feel stays consistent from start to finish. You can finish your track session and drive straight home with your family. That’s a defining characteristic of Porsche.

Taycan Turbo GT on Circuit

I believe this is the philosophy from Porsche’s GT engineers: to create cars that perform as well on public roads as they do on race tracks. Dedicated cooling, lubrication, and brakes should be built-in from the start, not added aftermarket.

Recently, I pushed my 718 Spyder RS through full-speed laps at Fuji’s main course and never once felt any temperature concerns—all while completely stock. If you’ve driven sports cars from other brands, you’ll understand this is no ordinary capability.

That’s Why the Manthey Kit Matters

If Porsches run so perfectly stock, why add a Manthey kit?

For many sports cars, aftermarket tuning compensates for shortcomings: insufficient cooling, rigidity, or brakes. Tuning fills in those gaps. Porsche doesn’t have those gaps to fill. Thus, Porsche tuning exists for a different purpose: to elevate an already complete car to an even higher level. The Manthey kit exemplifies this. It’s not about fixing deficits but pushing a 100 to 105 or 110—a fundamentally different approach than tuning on other brands.

Because Manthey was born and thrived right next to the Nürburgring, they know how to touch that “next level.” And Porsche officially endorses this work, offering it through Tequipment. That’s why the 9,408,300 yen price isn’t just parts cost—it’s buying the privilege to reach near GT3 RS levels of performance without voiding warranty or adding wide-body kits or roll cages. Viewed this way, the price makes sense.

Of course, add lightweight forged wheels, PCCB racing brake pads, Michelin Cup 2 R tires, and installation costs, and the total hits around 12 million yen. Not cheap, but you’re getting a “stock Porsche refined even further,” keeping daily usability, warranty, and resale intact while pushing harder on track. This is a position no aftermarket tuner can reach.

Who Is This Kit For?

So, who should consider this kit?

The ideal candidate is a 992.2 GT3 owner who tracks their car several times a year and seriously wants to shave off those critical tenths of a second. Someone who doesn’t want the uncompromising nature of the GT3 RS but finds the stock GT3 a little lacking. Someone unwilling to go wide-body, who values resale and wants to keep Porsche’s warranty intact. For such owners, the Manthey kit is the only realistic “correct answer” to enhance performance.

Conversely, if you mainly enjoy occasional winding road drives and rarely hit the track, this kit’s value might be minimal. The stock GT3 is already so well-rounded. Assess your own driving habits realistically before knocking on Manthey’s door. Porsche is already an exceptional car; the Manthey kit is a luxurious choice to make it even better.
