Our 981 Boxster GTS

Our 981 Boxster GTS was delivered in November 2015. This time, I’d like to introduce its interior. The Boxster GTS my husband purchased is a “2015 model, LHD steering wheel, MT transmission, black interior (all leather)”.

The GTS comes standard with the Sport Chrono Package, Sports Exhaust System, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), and bi-xenon headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) finished in black. The additional options we chose are as follows:

Model name emblem removal ¥0
Roll-over bar body color matching ¥92,000
Power folding door mirrors ¥55,000
20-inch Carrera S wheels ¥0
Heated seats (2-level temperature adjustment) left and right ¥76,000
Smoker’s package ¥0
Alcantara package deletion ¥0
Floor mats ¥20,000
Sports seats plus (2-level, electric) ¥0
3-spoke sports steering wheel ¥0
Gray band front windshield ¥21,000

Alcantara Package, Deleted…?

One curious thing about the options is the “deliberate removal of the Alcantara package.” Why remove it when it’s already included? When I asked, “Isn’t the Alcantara package popular because everyone usually opts for it?” my husband said,

Yeah, that’s true, but I don’t really like it. Somehow the seats look like those of a street racer, and also when we go on long drives, the seats don’t let me slide, so I can’t easily adjust my posture, which I don’t like.

Apparently, if you delete the Alcantara package, the “GTS” logo on the seat headrests also disappears. Oh no (*_*)!! I think having “GTS” written in white on the seats looks pretty cool…

Still, removing the Alcantara package that’s already included shows my husband’s unique taste (lol). So, I took some photos of the interior and will introduce them one by one.

① Seat Photos and Description

Since we deleted the Alcantara package, the Boxster GTS seats don’t have the logo on the headrests and are simple black leather. We have two small kids, and sometimes our eldest daughter rides in the passenger seat, so considering potential dirt, black was definitely the right choice.

The seats aren’t overly sporty but are comfortable and fit the body well, making driving easier. Also, as my husband said, since they’re not Alcantara, it’s easier to adjust your posture while driving. The seat adjustment lever is a simple one like this. (Only the seatback adjustment is electric)

Also, the sun visor looks like this. My husband attached a mesh cover to hold parking tickets on this visor. (He said that although there are many large sun visor covers sold at Autobacs, it’s hard to find one that fits the Boxster.)

The area around the top center (rearview mirror) is designed simply like this.

② Center Console Photos and Description

Regarding the center console, since this Boxster is a manual, it naturally has a shift lever. At first, it was stiff, but after driving 30,000 km, the shift lever has become much more familiar and easier to use.

At the top of the center console are buttons for the air conditioning and seat heaters,

and below the shift lever are buttons for sport mode and idle stop.

Opening the part of the center console that holds the cigarette lighter socket looks like this.

The central storage space,

opens to about this much.

So shallow! It hardly fits anything!ヽ(゚Д゚ )ノ

…I guess all sports cars are like this.

③ Steering Wheel and Navigation Photos and Description

The steering wheel is a 3-spoke sports steering wheel.

There’s a double line marker at the top of the steering wheel.

The key slot looks like this.

Since I’m used to the Panamera’s navigation system, this one looks kind of small.

The central clock of the Sport Chrono Package looks like this.

The overall navigation area has this kind of atmosphere.

④ Dashboard and Door Pocket Photos and Description

The dashboard looks like this,

and opens to about this capacity. There’s also an ETC card slot.

The door pockets on both sides,

open to hold things like a phone or sunglasses, and maybe a touring map.

There’s another storage pocket toward the front of the door.

⑤ Door Photos and Description

The door area looks like this.

The window control buttons and lock buttons are arranged like this.

The door sill guard has the model logo.

That’s all for the interior photos of the 981 Boxster GTS. Also, I recently shared photos of the Panamera Turbo’s interior in another article, so please check it out if you’re interested.
