How to buy a car at a luxury import car dealer - from ordering to delivery

How to buy a Porsche

Production date to be determined

Once the production time is finalized a few months after the order is placed, delivery of the car finally becomes a reality.Whenever a production date is fixed, Mr. H, who is in charge of our family, always contacts me immediately. However, we heard that some salesmen do not contact other dealers, so in that case, it would be better to check with us from time to time.

But this is also just a matter of timing. For Porsche, the model year is around summer (July-August).(This is different from the year on the vehicle inspection certificate in Japan.)changes.For example, models produced after the summer of 2019 will be 2020 models.

Cars like Porsche are slightly improved every year, and the year of production(Model year)The specifications of the same model change slightly depending on the It is a minor model change, but a minor one at that.

Therefore, theThe year on the vehicle inspection certificate at the time of delivery differs from the year of production (model year)In many cases. In the case of our Panamera Turbo, it is also a 2017 model on the vehicle inspection certificate, but as for production timing, it is a 2018 model (MY2018).(Also, I've heard that Porsche's factory will be closed for a while in the summer, so production will be halted during that time.)

And in this regard, theThe price at the time of order and the final price changes.Often, too. As for the Boxster GTS and Panamera Turbo, when we lifted the lid, the prices were 200,000-300,000 higher than when we ordered them.

I said at the time, "Oh, why! They're going to do it at the price I ordered it at! Isn't it strange that the price went up for their convenience? My husband replied

No, I know, but that's how it is with Porsches and such. That's what was explained to me when I ordered. The amount at the time of delivery is only the final amount. It is common for prices to change at the time of delivery due to price increases along the way, specification changes, etc.

He said.

Once the production time is finalized and on the production line, it will take about a month to complete.(I'm sure it varies a bit from model to model.)

Finalize the order at the dealer.

At the end of production, finalize the order at the dealership. Here, we prepare and bring the necessary documents, such as a garage certificate, confirm the final price of the car, and fill out and sign the dealer's order forms. At this point, however, my husband always says, "I don't feel it coming yet.He always says, "I'm not going to be able to do it.

I guess you can't really get a feel for it until you see it in person.

Even though I saw the car in person, I couldn't really feel it. It's like someone else's car."

He said.

Arrival at dealer from transport

Once the production of your car is completed and off the line, the next step is to send the car from Germany to Toyohashi Port in Japan.(All Porsches are landed here, according to the company.)The products are transported by sea to

However, it takes about a month and a half to arrive at Toyohashi Port by sea, so "I can't wait that long!If you are looking for an express delivery service that will airlift your car by plane, "Express Delivery Serviceair delivery serviceThey also have the option of using the "I'm sorry. This would allowThe minimum time from line-off to delivery is only one week. However, the fee is 600,000 yen plus at the time of this article.(*Source.(Response: "As expected of Porsche, delivery of the car is the fastest in the world!)

After arriving at the Toyohashi port, the Porsche is rechecked and transported to each Porsche dealer, where it is inspected, etc. Mr. H, who is in charge of our family, said that upon arrival at the dealership, "It has just arrived. Will take it in for coating and inspection after this!He would take a picture of the Porsche he had just arrived at and send it to us, as if to say, "I'm so happy to see you.(This is much appreciated)

It takes about a week for the car to come back to the dealer after being sent for various maintenance, coating, etc. However, in the case of GT3, it was before GW, so the factory was closed and it took a little longer to come back after the inspection.

delivery of a vehicle (to its new owner)

After that, the delivery date is arranged with the dealer, and finally the delivery date is decided. On the day of delivery, in our case, Mr. H came to our house to pick up the car and delivered it at the store, but I am sure there are other ways to deliver the car.

You can read about the delivery day (GT3) in this article if you like.

Porsche 911 GT3 finally delivered! - Delivery Day Documentary

Finally, to summarize the time from order to delivery in the case of our 971 Panamera Turbo

■ Early March 2017: Order
(At this point, we were told delivery could be as early as October, possibly November.)
■August 2017: Riding the Production Line
(Model year is now the 2018 model year, not the 2017 model year when ordered)
■End of September 2017: expected arrival at dealers
■Mid-October 2017: delivery of vehicles

It was.

Lastly, my husband, about ordering and taking delivery of a Porsche.

When buying a car by order, it is better to think that "the price and delivery date may change. Japanese people are very particular about delivery dates, so if you think of it like ordering a regular Japanese car, some people may say, "That's impossible! If you think of it as ordering a domestic car, some people might get angry and say, "That's impossible!

This buying process is what makes Porsche (Western cars) so much fun!

I know what it's like to be your husband and repeatedly run simulations on the configurator!

It is the best purchasing process, with a lot of hesitation before the decision delivery date, and a lot of joy and sorrow over the production quota.

On the other hand, it is said that among the many quotes and test drives after the Macan was announced, what kept people from purchasing it was the hell of options (?) and the delivery time. and the delivery time.

I heard that negotiations were often terminated when the buyer was told, "If you are not accustomed to this way of buying, you will have to wait six months.

Perhaps the minor-change Macan introduced the "XX package" as a reflection and lesson learned from that experience.
I'm just speculating, but, it's also easy to place a prospective order.

Blogs like this are very reassuring to first-time Porsche buyers, so keep 'em coming for a long time!

      Mr. Wind Slope.
      It's been a while!

I see what you mean about the makan, I see what you mean!
Sure, I thought the Macan was aimed at a different group of buyers than we've seen in the past.
Then you have the problem as written.

When I saw the Macan catalog, it was called the XXX package.
I thought, "Hey, why is the Macan like that?"
That may indeed have been the background.

      I see - I'm learning.
Thank you for your continued support!

    Porsche is a bit special.
Too many options (if it's a 4-door, at least make power steering standard. Doorknob strings and so on are also optional). If you customize a new car by yourself, the delivery time will be very long.
To get around this, the dealers would package and order new cars on their own, and then they would list them and say, "If you choose one of these cars, the delivery time will be 1-2 months! And that's how it was.
Well, it's better than ordering a Ferrari and having it fully remodeled by the time the delivery date arrives, lol.

So used Porsches are the best! So I often went to the dealer. However, there was no Panamera.
These days it's all about SUVs.

And so I am a Maserati driver backslash.

    • Mina.Mina.

      Mr. Granca.

      Porsche options are crazy detailed.
There were a lot of complications, like, "If I don't put this on, I don't get that feature."
      It was almost confusing (laughs).

      So few used Panameras...!
You certainly see a lot of Cayennes and Macans.
With a new car, it's likely that the timing of the changeover and the delivery date will not always match...

So you drive a Maserati! It's wonderful!
