How the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Changed Our Family Garage Lineup
The arrival of the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Weissach Package brought an unexpected shift to our home garage.
At first, I didn’t plan to keep this car for long. Given that it’s a radical machine also used as the Formula E safety car, I assumed it would be limited to circuit use and select winding roads, difficult to drive, and hardly suitable for daily driving.
But once I got behind the wheel, all those assumptions were completely overturned.
The Taycan Turbo GT is surprisingly comfortable for everyday use, making errands and commuting completely stress-free. In fact, it made me feel that other Porsches ride too harshly. Yet it delivers an overwhelming thrill behind the wheel. Captivated by this balance, I changed my original plan and decided to keep it long-term.
However, our garage space is limited.
Our current lineup includes a 981 Boxster GTS, a 964 911 Carrera 2 (air-cooled), a 991 911 Carrera 4 GTS, a Fairlady Z NISMO, a Taycan Cross Turismo 4S, and a Tesla Model 3. Faced with the need to part with one, after much deliberation, I made the tough decision to sell the one I had vowed to keep at all costs: the 991 911 Carrera 4 GTS.
Taycan Turbo GT vs. 911 – Why I Chose the Taycan
“You’re selling your 911 because the Taycan arrived? Are you crazy?”—That reaction is totally understandable.
If it were someone else, I’d probably think the same. People might even suspect I’m getting paid by Porsche to promote the Taycan. (I’m not.)
I fully realize this is an unusual decision.
So why the 991 911 Carrera 4 GTS?
The main reason is the overlap in roles with the Taycan Turbo GT. Although very different cars, they share all-wheel drive and a similar driving feel. Analyzing my collection, these two overlap the most in function and feel, leading me to this choice.
The Taycan Turbo GT stands apart even from other Taycan models.
Its driving feel far surpasses the 992 911. Unless you bring out a GT3 or higher, the difference is huge. Actually, even compared to GT3s, the Turbo GT wins hands down in comfort and everyday enjoyment. The performance gap between it and the 911 is overwhelming. If you were blindfolded, most people would mistake the Taycan Turbo GT for a 911 because its driving dynamics and fun are on a completely different level.
Unmatched Driving Performance and Its Essence
The Taycan Turbo GT’s driving character can’t be explained by power alone.
Its chassis feel clearly follows the GT lineage, with precision close to that of the GT3 and GT4. The tight, responsive handling feels like driving a giant go-kart. It’s reminiscent of the McLaren 650S I once owned, with a low center of gravity and a connected, unified feel.
This trait is evident not only at high speeds but also in city driving at low speeds. Even lane changes at 40–60 km/h on regular roads showcase its precision. Unlike supercars that respond 1.5 times to driver input, the Taycan reacts exactly 1-to-1, delivering pinpoint accuracy. Its movements are so precise it feels like it’s instantly shifting sideways. This precision creates an incredibly satisfying driving experience.
The ride quality is another highlight.
Despite its firm suspension, it never feels unsettled. No matter the road surface, your viewpoint remains steady without any head movement. Although it’s set up like a stiff race car, the body hardly ever shakes. This trait reduces fatigue on long drives and maintains comfort even in slow city traffic. This is thanks to the active ride system.
On the highway, it feels invincible. It’s so effortless that you don’t even feel the need to push its limits. It drives with the calm confidence of a true champion. Step on the accelerator and, without needing sport mode, it glides through lanes and overtakes cars in an instant.
