BYD’s New Electric Sports Car Spotted on Public Roads for the First Time
Chinese automaker BYD has recently had its new electric sports car spotted on public roads for the first time. Although it was covered in camouflage, the vehicle’s appearance suggests it could be a high-performance model rivaling the Porsche 911.
This new model is said to be influenced by Wolfgang Egger, a former designer for Lamborghini and Audi. With Egger’s involvement, BYD’s new sports car is expected to combine sophisticated design with impressive performance, making it an attractive offering.
About BYD’s New Sub-Brand “Fang Cheng Bao”
In June 2023, BYD launched “Fang Cheng Bao (方程宝)” as its fifth sub-brand. The lineup under this brand is planned to cover a wide range of vehicles, from off-roaders to sports cars.
The first model under Fang Cheng Bao, the “Bao 5,” was unveiled in November 2023. Later, at a conference in spring 2024, the flagship SUV “Bao 8,” the compact SUV “Super 3,” and the concept model of the electric sports car “Super 9”—which is currently drawing attention—were revealed.
Features of the Newly Spotted Electric Sports Car
According to Chinese automotive news site CarNewsChina, BYD’s new electric sports car was spotted in China for the first time. The released images show a sporty two-door EV loaded on a carrier truck.

The car is covered in blue camouflage previously used on BYD prototypes, yet its aggressive design, low stance, and sloping front end are clearly visible. However, as it is still under development, details such as the headlights and rear bumper remain unclear.
Expected Specs and Future Prospects of the New Electric Sports Car
Interestingly, there is information suggesting that this new electric sports car might be launched not under the Fang Cheng Bao brand but under BYD’s other brand, “Denza (腾势).” Denza was originally a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and BYD, but BYD recently acquired full ownership.
Chinese media speculate that this new electric sports car could be a four-seater, similar to the Porsche 911, although this cannot be confirmed from the images released.
Regarding the powertrain, it is highly likely to adopt a setup similar to Denza’s “Z9” model, which features three electric motors and could deliver a combined output of around 1,000 horsepower (710 kW).

Denza plans to enter the European market next year with the “Z9 GT,” a shooting brake model. It is anticipated that this new electric sports car will follow suit.
BYD’s new electric sports car holds the potential to become a rival to the Porsche 911. While details and an official announcement are eagerly awaited, the automotive world is watching closely. The arrival of a serious high-performance electric sports car from a Chinese manufacturer could bring fresh excitement to the industry.
