Lightweight Carbon Fiber Body
When it comes to restomod Porsche 911s, Singer is the name that often comes to mind.
However, another masterpiece has emerged in this world.
Based in California, the Porsche restomod specialist Gunther Werks has created a model called the “GWR,” which has attracted attention as a car that pushes lightweight construction and high performance to the extreme.
Gunther Werks specializes in a modern reinterpretation of air-cooled Porsche 911s, particularly the 993 generation.
The standout feature of the GWR is its thorough weight reduction. By using carbon fiber for every body panel, the vehicle weight is kept to a mere 1080 kg. This is an astonishingly light figure for a modern sports car.
The body design is also optimized for aerodynamics. The front fascia features large air intakes and a black splitter, while the hood is equipped with air extractors. At the rear, a bold ducktail spoiler is fitted, blending the traditional 911 silhouette with a contemporary interpretation.
Moreover, even the exhaust pipes are produced using 3D printing technology. These meticulous details reveal Gunther Werks’ uncompromising approach.
Motorsport-Inspired Interior
The GWR’s interior combines motorsport-inspired functionality with luxurious craftsmanship. Carbon fiber bucket seats and dashboard are used, achieving both weight savings and a premium feel.
The steering wheel is wrapped in Alcantara, with gold gauges and a 12 o’clock marker adding a special touch. These details strike a perfect balance between preserving the classic 911 atmosphere and incorporating modern elements.
Breathtaking Sound from a Naturally Aspirated Engine
While many restomods opt for turbocharged engines, the GWR sticks to a naturally aspirated setup.
Its 4.0-liter flat-six engine is a high-revving unit that spins up to an incredible 9000 rpm.
It produces a maximum output of 368 kW (500 hp) and 461 Nm of torque. These figures promise an exhilarating driving experience. Additionally, a custom-designed throttle body, new intake manifold, and lightweight titanium components enhance engine responsiveness.
The sharp throttle response unique to naturally aspirated engines, combined with the sensual sound rising to 9000 rpm, is sure to stir the driver’s soul.
Precisely Tuned Chassis
Gunther Werks paid close attention not only to the engine and bodywork but also to the chassis development. The wheelbase is extended by 30 mm compared to the standard 993 911, and the front suspension uses double wishbones.
Along with these changes, the adoption of lightweight magnesium wheels allows the GWR to deliver extremely precise handling and outstanding agility. Drivers can expect a truly connected driving feel that faithfully responds to their inputs.
The price of the GWR has not been disclosed, but production is limited to just 40 units. Given the level of craftsmanship, it will undoubtedly command a very high price.
The GWR inherits the soul of the classic 911 while blending the latest technology and outstanding performance. It is truly the ultimate restomod Porsche 911, filled with respect and passion for the marque.
Following Singer, this model is sure to become a hot topic among Porsche owners.
