Reviews & Test Rides

Engine and Sound

Now, let's see. This GT4RS, as you can imagine, sounds quite exciting! The first is.

especiallyThe intake noise that flows in through the air intake, which is located where the rear window would normally be, is tremendous. You can clearly hear that the engine is breathing. For many people, there is probably no experience in which they have heard the intake sound of an engine so clearly. I was one of them, and this was the first time I could hear it clearly in this car.

My 991.1 GTS has a sound symposer tuned for the GTS that lets you hear the engine intake in the cockpit, but this is an even louder version of that sound. The common point is that the sound is more powerful with the windows closed.

The intake duct leads directly to the engine inside the car.

As the engine revs up, "Shu OThe sound of the engine is closer to the GT3 than to the GT3, so it can be heard directly inside the car.It is truly a "live" performance of the GT3 engine.

In addition, when downshifting, when idling to match the rpm, the "Shpoof!A short intake sound, "I've never experienced such a pleasant sound before," echoed through the air.

When the accelerator pedal is pressed down hard in a straight line, the needle of the tachometer jumps up at once. The momentum is tremendous. The closer to 9,000 rpm, the more the engine revs up, just as in the GT3.I have known a number of engines that have a high RPM extension, but I have never known an engine that has such a dramatic and accelerated RPM increase speed as Porsche's GT3 engine. It really has a wonderful revving feel.

The sense of power is, needless to say, overwhelming. If I may say so.Because the GT4RS is mid-ship, it does not feel as lean and forward with as strong traction as the RR 911.However, the face-pulling acceleration is still there. This, too, is just as you might expect.

Sohyo (General Council of Trade Unions of Japan)

I have said in the past, "The GT3 model of the 911 is different from the regular Carrera series, and the GTS, the pinnacle of the Carrera series, is completely different from the GT3. There is a big gap there," I have said many times. I still feel the same way about this.

But when it comes to the Cayman GT4 and now the GT4RS.As for the driving feel, I would describe it as "an extension of the regular Cayman model. In other words, the GT4RS is only the pinnacle model of the Cayman, and does not feel as separate from the Carrera as the 911 GT3 does.

Of course, there is no doubt that they are different in terms of performance, but I am talking about 'driving feel'.

718 Cayman GT4RS

thereforeGT4RS seems to be a surprisingly common use for it.I would say that it is a very good car for commuting, dating, and long-distance touring. However, since the car is almost like a racing car, I would not say that it can be used for commuting, dating, or long-distance touring. In fact, it is not suited for such use at all. However, I think it has a wider range of usability (and enjoyment) in the everyday range than the GT3.

I think so in terms of engine sound, suspension settings, gear ratios, etc. While driving around town, the GT3, for example, can cause some frustration in not being able to crank the engine, but this is somewhat less so with the GT4RS.I think so. The sound is enjoyable even at low rpm, and since it is not in an extremely low gear, stop-and-go driving is not so stressful.

The ride quality is strong and shaky on rough surfaces, but less uncomfortable, and the steering characteristics are appropriately mild.

The owner of this car has a lot of experience owning other high-performance cars such as the GT3, but when I asked him what he thought of the GT4RS, he said.It is easier to use and drive than the GT3 and others. I like it very much and this is a car I want to keep for a long time.I guess my impression was not wrong, because he said, "I am not a fan of this.

This test drive has made me personally like the GT4RS more and more. In terms of personal preference, I would choose the GT4RS over the GT3. That's how much I was attracted to this car.

    Hello, hiro.
Gulf color, 18-way seats, black calipers (actually PCCB?) and what a gt4rs for a genteel gt4rs ^ ^.
As someone who has ordered the spider rs, this is the review I have been eagerly awaiting. Thank you!
I'm hoping to manage to get a slot at a dealer that doesn't have much of a class system, like an established dealer (if I don't get one, I'll buy a 992.2 prime cabriolet), so I'm thinking of different specs every day (lol).
So I'd like to ask you a couple of questions.
    Bucket seats or 18-way seats
    PCCB, need for front lift
The seat is predominantly a bucket, differentiating it from the 981gts and being aware of the good feel of the 981 Spyder.
The PCCB and front lift are all swinging on mountain roads, as there is almost no city driving.
And the part that bothered me the most was.
Unlike the gt3, it's an extension of the Cayman."
This is the point that we are trying to make.
Wouldn't it diminish the significance of the common man owning a 981 Boxster gts with PDK instead of MT at the same time?
And will it ever be possible to free oneself from the spell of the 981 Spyder's mizzen-like, happiest driving sensation?
*I am not willing to give up my 981gts that has been turned into a crazy exhaust machine by replacing the tacho leg.

I am very aware that just having the gt3 engine on it is more than enough value, but I am expecting spartanness in a completely different direction than the mild 981gts, so I was concerned about that.
I felt that my fears were probably unfounded, as I could see from your closing remarks, but at any rate, the price is by far the most expensive I have ever paid, and I am going to push myself very hard to buy it, so my expectations and anxiety are so high that I am going to lose my head. (Laughter)
If I wanted to change direction, there are other options, but I love convertible cars so much and I love Porsche so much that I only buy convertible cars except for the Macan, so even if I wanted to change direction, only Porsche convertible models would be on my list... (laughs).
From the perspective of hiro, who loves 981gts and has experience with 981 spider, if this is a spider rs instead of a gt4rs. I would like to hear your opinion on if of the following.
If it is not too much trouble, we would appreciate your reply when you are free.
I apologize for the length of this message, and thank you in advance for your cooperation.

      Answer Hello ds124.

      Bucket seats or 18-way seats

I guess this is a preference, but given the concept of the GT4RS
Buckets seem to be more popular and I think they are a plus for resale.

      PCCB, need for front lift

If you are not going to the circuit, PCCB is a good idea.
However, I have recently ridden a number of PCCB vehicles and think that they are too light.
At low speeds, the ride feels more moist and smooth with regular brakes.
However, the flatness at speed is PCCB.
I would add a front lift. The reason is that you never know what kind of bumps you might encounter at a convenience store or gas station on your way out.
Also, looking at the used market for GT3s, the ones without front lifts are somewhat less popular.

I was concerned about this because I expect spartanness in a completely different direction from the mild 981gts.

Compared to the 981GTS, the GT4RS is indeed quite spartan, but the feeling of movement is very similar, though.
I thought the legs were firmer than the 718 GT4, but I didn't notice that much difference, especially in the response when starting to turn the steering wheel. So I think it is an extension of the 718 Cayman.
Comparing the 981GTS and the GT3, there is a distinctly different feeling of being in a different class. From the way it turns to the steering response, it is completely different, but I did not feel that much of a difference.

From the perspective of hiro, who loves 981gts and has experience with 981 spider, if this is a spider rs instead of a gt4rs. I would like to hear your opinion on if of the following.

I can't say anything about the Spyder RS since it hasn't been announced yet, but at least with the GT4RS, I think this is a GT3 engine in the car, which adds to the fun.
The intake and engine noise and exhaust notes that reverberate through the coupe body of the car are audible from the low RPM range and lift the spirits.
But what if this is an open body?
The sound is lost in the background, and what is heard is a greater percentage of the exhaust note.
Then, of course, the sound is good because it is a GT3 engine. However, due to recent noise regulations, if you want to hear the sound properly in the open, the exhaust note is not powerful unless the engine is turned up considerably.
This is what I thought when I compared the 718 GT4 and the 718 Spyder, but I would choose the GT4RS because I want to enjoy the sound that reverberates firmly in the car from the low rpm range.

The above is for your information.

    Nice to meet you.

I always enjoy looking at your site.

I am afraid we are not talking about the GT4RS, but I would like to ask your husband to tell us about the 991.1 Carrera 4GTS.

I am currently considering purchasing a 991.1 Carrera 4GTS and would like to know the following information.

    1) The navigation system is made by Clarion, but the map update is finished in 2019. but what should I do since I can't even use Apple Car Play as in 1.2? I am wondering what to do. What do you do?

    2) Do you know the production start and end dates of the 991.1 Carrera 4GTS? What model year does it exist? I would like to know.

    3) I currently own a 991.2 GT3RS and a 992 Carrera 4, but I am a big NA fan, and I can't get rid of the 992C4's various negatives (turbo, shift lever, door flaps, touch screen that is no longer a physical switch, etc.), so should I switch? More 991.1 Carrera 4GTS?
I am struggling with this. It would be helpful if you could give me some advice here as well.

    Above.

I am sorry to ask so many questions out of the blue, but I would appreciate it if you could help me.

      Hello, syuny.

      I have a 991.1 Carrera 4GTS.

      1) The navigation system is made by Clarion, but the map update is finished in 2019. but what should I do since I can't even use Apple Car Play as in 1.2? I am wondering what to do. What do you do?

As you can see in the blog post, both the Boxster and the 991.1 have been converted to display audio.

      2) Do you know the production start and end dates of the 991.1 Carrera 4GTS? What model year does it exist? I would like to know.

I don't know for sure, but I think it will probably be in production for about a year and in terms of model year, it will be 2016. (In terms of Japanese model year, most of them are registered in 2015)

It depends on your preference, so it is difficult to say, but if you like touring and driving itself, I think the 991.1 is more enjoyable.
On the other hand, if you are more concerned about appearance, practicality, etc., it might be the 992C4.

That is all, but for your information.

    Mr. Hiro

Thank you for your prompt reply.

Display audio...it was an eye opener. I was saved with amazement that such a convenient thing exists now! I was saved with surprise.

Even with the RS/992C4, I use Gooogle Maps/Spotify on my Apple Car Play for navigation and music, and I don't watch TV, so "this is the only way!" Thank you very much for showing us the best audio system. Thank you very much.

I am waiting for a good match for the 991.1 Carrera 4GTS, although there is no one that I am interested in under the circumstances.

Thank you very much for your continued support and guidance.

I would like to thank you in advance.
