Key Topics and Highlights
Going Live and Showing Off a Porsche Targa T-Shirt [00:00]
- The livestream layout has changed, making viewer icons and messages larger on screen.
- Our host is wearing a Porsche × Puma Targa T-shirt bought at a Porsche Center, with a Targa design on the back.
- He usually wears black because it has a slimming effect, and tends to avoid white and other light colors that can make you look larger.
- Porsche merchandise is expensive, but the quality is good. If you’re used to Uniqlo or GU prices, the difference can come as a surprise.
The New Cayenne Electric Makes Its Debut [06:17]
- Porsche has officially unveiled the new Cayenne Electric, and it’s now featured on the Porsche Japan website.
- On the design: the front and sides look good, but the rear doesn’t feel very Porsche-like—it could almost belong on a Honda or Toyota.
- The impression may change in person, but in photos, the rear lacks visual presence.
- The positioning of the license plate could also affect how the rear looks.
Cayenne Electric Specs in Detail [08:56]
- The Cayenne Turbo Electric produces 1,156 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.5 seconds—more power than the Taycan Turbo GT.
- Its WLTP-rated range is 642 km (399 miles). In real-world use, expect roughly 500 km (311 miles), or around 70–80% of the official figure—about the same as the Taycan Turbo GT.
- It supports ultra-fast charging at up to 400 kW, adding enough range for 325 km (202 miles) in 10 minutes. However, 400 kW chargers aren’t currently available in Japan.
- A newly developed 113 kWh battery is fitted. Think of it as the EV equivalent of a larger fuel tank.
- Japan’s CHAdeMO charging standard won’t let drivers take full advantage of its charging capability. A move to NACS, Tesla’s charging standard, would be welcome.
Cayenne Electric Pricing and Features [12:30]
- The Cayenne Electric starts at ¥13 million, while the Cayenne Turbo Electric starts at ¥21 million.
- Given how much Porsche prices have risen lately, the new models seem surprisingly reasonable. The price is impressive for a vehicle with 1,156 hp.
- Porsche’s first wireless charging option is available, though our host’s verdict is clear: “You absolutely don’t need it.”
- The interior has been extensively redesigned and features a wide-screen display. Still, some drivers may feel that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are all they really need.
Configuring the Cayenne Turbo Electric [17:00]
- For the exterior, Vanadium Grey Metallic and Dolomite Silver Metallic stand out as colors that suit the Cayenne Electric’s metallic look.
- 21-inch wheels are selected. Since larger wheels can significantly reduce an EV’s range, a smaller size is the better choice for maximizing distance.
- The interior is specified in a two-tone Chalk Beige and Black. Many of the available colors have a subdued, understated feel.
- The Off-Road Design Package is chosen for the exterior, giving the front end a look our host particularly likes.
Why Active Ride Matters [28:30]
- At ¥1.24 million, Active Ride is an option our host says you absolutely should add. Its ride comfort is on another level from PDCC or PASM.
- The ride feels like a “magic carpet,” with almost no body movement. It’s worth every yen of its ¥1.27 million price, in his view.
- He feels so strongly about it that he says, “If you’re buying a Cayenne Turbo Electric and not getting Active Ride, don’t buy it.”
- It’s such a standout feature that he says you could choose it and skip everything else.
Brakes and Other Equipment [30:36]
- PCCB (Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes) are the only option discussed, but our host feels they’re unnecessary on an EV.
- EVs slow down using regenerative braking, so the physical brakes are used for only about 10% of the total driving distance.
- That means less brake dust, and standard brakes should be more than adequate.
- The car offers driver-assistance features, but after seeing Tesla FSD, our host says they “look like toys.”
Final Cayenne Turbo Electric Configuration and Price [33:27]
- The configured Cayenne Turbo Electric comes to ¥24.29 million, including ¥3.28 million in options.
- Active Ride accounts for more than ¥1 million of the options bill, while the rest of the build is relatively restrained.
- The Turbo model comes generously equipped as standard, so you don’t need to add many options.
- Our host says he’d consider a mid-range version, such as a Cayenne S, if Active Ride were available on it.
Our Take on the Cayenne Electric [36:33]
- Our host is seriously considering the Cayenne Electric as his next car after the SL.
- Even with a Taycan Turbo GT already in the garage, he’s drawn to the appeal of an electric Porsche.
- Without a V8 engine, running costs should be lower, and electricity costs about one-third as much as gasoline.
- He’s impressed by the EV’s key strengths: it’s incredibly quick, smooth, and comfortable.
- The rear seats are also roomier, improving passenger comfort.
Configuring the Macan Electric [43:45]
- The Macan Electric gets a configuration walkthrough, starting with Gentian Blue Metallic for the exterior.
- 21-inch wheels are selected. As with the Cayenne, choosing a reasonable wheel size can help preserve range.
- The interior is specified in Truffle Brown Club Leather. The combination of a blue exterior and brown interior works especially well.
- The build includes 18-way seats, seat ventilation, and front relaxation seats with a massage function.
Macan Exterior Design and Lighting [48:00]
- The Off-Road Design Package is selected, with roof rails adding to the Macan’s rugged look.
- Ice Blue tinted taillights are chosen to bring out the car’s Porsche character.
- Our host recommends skipping privacy glass for a cleaner, more refined appearance.
- On blue exterior colors in particular, leaving the glass untinted creates a more cohesive look.
Macan Performance Options [52:36]
- Air suspension and rear-axle steering are must-haves.
- Electric Sport Sound is also recommended. “When it drives without making a sound, you can’t tell whether it’s a Porsche or anything else.”
- The BOSE® Surround Sound System is especially appealing in an EV. With less road and engine noise, music stands out more.
- Our host isn’t keen on the electric charging-port cover, worrying that it might stop working.
Macan Electric Price and Popular Colors [53:58]
- A base-model Macan Electric comes to around ¥16 million, including about ¥3 million in options.
- Oak Green Metallic is highlighted as a popular color and gets a thumbs-up for its looks.
- Sapphire Blue Metallic, available through Porsche’s Paint to Sample (PTS) program, is another contender. Its bright blue shade has plenty of appeal.
- Gulf Blue and Meissen Blue are also considered, but neither was available among the options shown.
Comparing the Cayenne and Macan Electric Designs [57:03]
- Compared with the familiar Cayenne, the new Cayenne Electric looks unusual at first glance.
- The rear drops away sharply, giving it a look reminiscent of the Cross Turismo.
- From the side, it has the feel of a large wagon.
- Its dimensions are close to those of the current model, with only about 2 cm added to its length.
Viewer Comments and Questions [59:00]
- Viewer TAKURO says Ice Grey is the most popular color in customer surveys, especially among women.
- One viewer has just taken delivery of a gasoline-powered Macan GTS and says it’s comfortable. Newer generations have become more comfortable overall.
- A tip for Boxster and Spyder owners: lower the sun visors by 30 degrees when driving with the top down to enhance the open-air feeling.
- A viewer shares that Tesla plans to bring Grok to Japan next year.
Final Thoughts and a Preview of Next Week [61:29]
- The Cayenne Electric is a serious contender for our host’s next purchase—he says he genuinely wants one.
- He reiterates how important Active Ride is, saying the car is worth buying for this feature alone.
- Next week’s topic hasn’t been decided yet, so viewer suggestions are welcome.
