At the end of last year, my husband went on a Kyushu touring trip alone in his Boxster. He wrote an article about that trip in several parts, if you would like to read them.

Boxster Touring

The year 2020 is coming to an end. This year was Corona, and it was a year of great upheaval in the world. Personally, I think it was a year that made me think about the way I work and how I will live in the future.

In the midst of all this. After a long absence, I took my beloved Boxster GTS (981 model) out for a touring trip during the year-end vacations.I decided to go out. Of course, it was a solo touring, avoiding honey, where we rarely meet other people.

Long distance touring in the Boxster was done in GW 2019.Tohoku TouringThis will be the first time since then. This time, as expected at the end of the year, we had to avoid areas where snow was likely to fall. This time, we had to avoid areas where snow was likely to fall. After considering various destinations, we decided onThe final destination was to be Kagoshima in Kyushu via the Chugoku region.

I get into my Boxster, which I carefully washed before departure. He puts his hand through the driving glove and steps on the clutch. He inserts the key into the ignition switch and fires up the engine.

The first destination is the Mimasaka Yamanami Kaido in Okayama Prefecture. This is thewata's blogAccording to Mr. Shima, who is well-known for his work on the "Ascension Road," this road is so famous that it is nicknamed the "Ascension Road. We headed west on the empty Chugoku Expressway and got off at the Tsuyama Interchange.

Mimasaka Yamanami Kaido Road and Boxster

I've been on this road many times already, but it is as wonderful as ever. It's a straight road that runs north-south through the woods. The road surface conditions are excellent with a good balance of ups and downs, high speed corners and low speed corners, and the road is wide. The road is very quiet, and there are almost no cars on it.

The Nürburgring North Course is called "Green Hell", but I would like to call this place "Green Heaven". That's how muchA heavenly road for car lovers and driving enthusiasts. It is. However, it is not at all suitable for a scenic drive, as no views or scenery can be expected.

It is a road for those who want to enjoy driving in a stoic manner.

I dared not use auto-blipping, but instead drove through third and fourth gear, making full use of poor heel-and-toe in sport mode.

However, no matter how many times I try, the pedal layout of the Porsche makes heel-and-toe difficult on ordinary roads. The difference in height between the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal is large, and the brakes are very effective, so it is difficult to smoothly accelerate the accelerator.

However, theIt is easy to do in an environment where the brakes are applied strongly, such as on a circuit.Incidentally, from what I hear.Porsche does not recommend heel-and-toe on public roads in the first place.

I enjoyed it so much that after two round trips along this road, I drove the Boxster to the "Oku-Kibi Kaido," another famous road that Okayama Prefecture is proud of.

Oku-Kibi Highway and Boxster

Compared to the Mimasaka Yamanami Kaido, this winding road has more ups and downs and more mid-speed corners, but it is also completely empty and reserved. Moreover, the distance is very long.

The 981 Boxster's initial response is a little sluggish, but once it starts to turn, the yaw is generated around the center point of the body, and the car goes through the corner as if it were turning around in a very pleasant manner.

The Boxster GTS's exhaust note roars through the mountains as it heads westward.

Oh no.Many of the roads in Okayama Prefecture are truly excellent. In addition to the roads introduced here, there are various large and small farm roads, and all of them have low traffic volume. All of them are famous roads that are coveted by car enthusiasts, so I highly recommend that you visit them at least once.

Today's lodging is in Higashi-Hiroshima City. It would be easy to get there by highway, but that would be pointless, so we decided to explore the roads in the mountains from Okayama to Hiroshima as we went.Take the somewhat narrow K85 via Fukiya-kaido road, K106, and then K27 up and down.

The roads in this area are also very pleasant. It is a country road that flows well and can be driven at one's own pace. I thought to myself, "It would be great to drive an air-cooled Porsche on a road like this," as I whipped the Boxster into shape and headed for the inn via R432.

On the first day, we focused on enjoying the famous roads in Okayama, so we did not do any sightseeing or anything (as usual), but there are really many pleasant roads in the Okayama to Hiroshima area. There are still many roads that I am not familiar with, so I would like to come back and explore them again when the opportunity arises.

The next day, the plan was to go from Hiroshima to Yamaguchi. Staring at the touring map, I fell asleep.

Hello...I am a 65 year old male. I am planning to buy a "Cayman" in the near future, and I think it is the same 718, so I am enjoying reading your article. I have thought about the "Boxster" but I like the style of the "Cayman"...but my mind is still wavering as I think the "Boxster" would be nice too. In any case, I look forward to reading your articles. Thank you for everything you do. Please keep up the good work.
