I Love the Panamera

I absolutely love the Panamera. In an earlier blog post, I tried to explain why I love the Panamera like this:

“Ah, the Panamera—what an incredible car….”
Drive it every day, and it still finds a way to amaze you.
It commands attention, even just sitting in a parking lot.
It has the presence of a true heavyweight.
It surges onto the highway with effortless acceleration.
Its engine sounds wonderful.
The steering makes you feel completely in sync with the car.
It responds faithfully to every press of the accelerator.
You can feel its tires planted firmly on the road.
It feels so reassuringly stable.
You’re always aware of its substantial size.
Yet it drives so well that its weight never feels like a burden.
Just getting behind the wheel gives you the funny feeling that you’ve somehow become a more important person.
It’s amazing—almost too good to be true.
Sure, it’s not exactly nimble in tight spaces.
Sure, it won’t fit into every parking spot.
Sure, it isn’t fuel-efficient.
Sure, narrow roads can be a challenge.
But it’s such a wonderful car that all of those drawbacks pale in comparison.

Every time I drive it, I’m reminded of just how wonderful this car is.

What Makes the Panamera So Special?

Among Porsche fans, though, I think far more people say they love the 911. And even among people who aren’t Porsche enthusiasts, plenty have heard of Porsche and the 911, but don’t know there’s a car called the Panamera.

But the Panamera really is an exceptionally well-engineered car. It’s sporty despite its considerable size, and sporty while still being luxurious—a remarkable blend of qualities that might seem contradictory. And yet, when I try to pin down exactly why I love it, I feel that in the end, it isn’t really about logic. It’s something I feel deeply, but can’t quite put into words.

Looking back over my life, I’ve often found that the things that truly move me don’t necessarily come with a clear reason.

・Why did I take a chance in my twenties, even when everyone around me strongly opposed it?
・Why did I marry my husband?
・Why have I continued working with my current business partner all these years?
・Why did I choose the work I do now?

I can explain some of it with words and logic, but when it comes down to it, I don’t really know why.

Because it seemed exciting,
because it just felt right,
because I wanted to do it,
because it made me feel alive…

In the end, there’s real power in being driven by something you can’t explain. And that’s how I feel about the Panamera: it’s not about logic. I simply love it. So, with renewed determination, I’m thinking: “I’m going to keep working hard toward my goal of buying a Panamera!”
