Front Tire Replacement on the Taycan: Tires and Labor Cost Just Under 140,000 Yen!

Yesterday, I went to replace the tires on my Taycan. The shop I chose was the same one I had used before: Tire-Kokan.com.

Since tires larger than 21 inches aren’t handled by “Nishinomiya Base” (Nishinomiya Base), where my husband usually goes, I asked a fellow Porsche owner for recommendations. That’s how I found Tire-Kokan.com.

My First Ever Tire Replacement

Although I’ve owned several cars in the past, I usually sold them before needing new tires. So, my first real tire replacement was on the Taycan two years ago, when the mileage hit 18,000 km.

Before that, I was embarrassingly unaware that the front and rear tires even had to be different—and I nearly bought four identical tires! (laughs)

It wasn’t until that first tire change that I really began to understand the whole process.

Since then, I waited until the very last moment for about a year and a half. The mileage had reached 37,500 km—a full 20,000 km since the last tire change.

I often find myself surprised, thinking, “Did I really drive that much?” (laughs)

With that kind of mileage, the tire tread naturally wore down. During the vehicle inspection in February this year, I was told, “You should probably consider changing the front tires soon.”

Around that time, rumors about the Tesla Model Y Long Range (Model YL) possibly launching in Japan stirred up some doubts: “Maybe I should sell the Taycan and switch?” My mind was wavering.

So I tried to hold off on replacing the tires as long as possible. But three months passed in the blink of an eye. Eventually, it was clear: the tires couldn’t wait any longer, and I decided to have them replaced.

A Close Call with Tire Availability

I initially tried to find tires online or on Rakuten, but then remembered I had previously purchased tires through the shop directly, so I decided to order the front tires there.

When I requested the tires I wanted (“NF0 Pirelli P ZERO (PZ4) SPORT ELECT Front Tires, size 265/35 ZR21”), the shop soon informed me only two tires were left in stock from their supplier.

Due to geopolitical issues in the Middle East, if these two sold out, no one knew when new stock would arrive. It’s surprising how global events can impact even tire availability.

Honestly, it was a close call to secure these tires just in time and get the replacements done.

Another First: This Time Actually Getting the Tires Changed

Upon arrival, the owner greeted me: “Wow, you really got a lot of use out of these! That was cutting it *really* close!” (laughs) I’m definitely going to replace tires earlier from now on.

The cost for the new tires came to just over 130,000 yen, and with labor included, it was under 140,000 yen total. The whole job took less than an hour and was wrapped up quickly.

So grateful!

Also, regarding the rear tires, there’s still enough tread to drive about another 10,000 km.

It looks like next January I’ll replace the rear tires, followed later by changing all four at once.

(According to the shop, given my driving style, front tires last about 15,000 km, and rear tires around 30,000 km.)

Earlier I mentioned I was considering switching to the Model YL, but after test-driving one recently, I decided I’ll keep enjoying my Taycan.

Besides, selling now would mean paying extra on the loan (since Taycan resale value is tricky), and above all, I truly love how this Taycan drives. I want to take good care of it for a while longer.

With the vehicle inspection done, tires fresh, and the 25,000 yen annual tax paid, it’s time to keep this Porsche life rolling.

Once the wheel repairs are complete—they’ve been on hold for about a year—I expect no major expenses for a while.

Now, it’s time to work hard so I can continue enjoying life with my Taycan!
