A Porsche 911 GT3 Miniature Model Arrives at Our Home—If We Have the Real Thing, Why Do We Need a Model?

Porsche 911 GT3
We have a lot of miniature cars at home. Between the ones we’ve received at Porsche events and fairs, a Carrera Cup car given to us by a friend, and the models my husband has bought, I’d say we have more than 20…(including three of the same model in some cases)

And now my husband has bought yet another model. This time, it’s a 1:18-scale 911 GT3 Touring. He ordered it before buying his GT3, but it was out of stock. Now that it’s finally arrived, he’s absolutely delighted.
He chose the body color called Chalk (apparently, it’s called Crayon in some markets), but when we opened the box, the model looked much more gray than expected. It was clearly a different shade from Crayon. Even so, my husband was thrilled.

Then I realized something: “Wait, hadn’t you already bought a 911 GT3 Touring model? (-_-)” I went to look—and sure enough, there it was: a 1:43-scale 911 GT3 Touring.

I asked him, “Why buy another 911 GT3 Touring model when you already have one?”
“Sure, I bought a smaller model before, but it’s white, so it doesn’t really look like my GT3. And I wanted something more realistic. I wanted one that looked more like my own car, so I bought this 1:18-scale Minichamps model in Chalk. Now I have both!”
Apparently, the 1:43-scale model was limited to 504 units, while the 1:18-scale version was limited to 300. This 1:18 model is impressively detailed: the doors open, and the interior, steering wheel, gauges, and center console look a lot like the real thing.

What I just can’t wrap my head around is this: We have a real 911 GT3 in our garage that we can look at and drive whenever we want. So why buy a model of it, too? When I asked my husband, he said:
“I know, but… I want to be able to admire my car inside the house, too. That’s why I wanted a model that looks as realistic as possible.”
Hmm… Sorry, but I still don’t really get it… lol.
Is Owning a Porsche Model Alongside the Real Car Worth It?
So I tweeted about it…
My husband bought large and small 911 GT3 Touring models, and they’ve just arrived—he’s so excited. But if you already own the real thing, do you still want a model of it…?😂 I told him, “You can see the real car anytime you go to the garage!” but it didn’t seem to make the slightest difference to him. lol pic.twitter.com/14UAEsJ6e1

I got lots of replies saying, “I totally get it!”
“I have a model of my car on display in my home office and in the lounge, too. Sitting in the driver’s seat isn’t the only way to enjoy your car—seeing it from above and appreciating it from a different perspective can make you even more attached to it, and you might notice things you hadn’t seen before!”
“I can see wanting the 1:43, 1:18, and 1:1 (the real thing, lol) versions. I’d even want a model made of my own car.”
…Wait, really? Is that how it works?!
I mean, just how much do you all love cars?! (゚д゚)!
Even now, I’m still amazed by the way car lovers think. I guess the Porsche owner experience comes with a few surprises!
