Information on the Porsche 911 Turbo S and Cayenne GTS Coupe
We received a message from a blog reader saying, “I purchased a Porsche 911 Turbo S and a Cayenne GTS Coupe. This is my first Porsche, and I’d like to share my impressions as a beginner.”
Thank you very much!
I believe impressions will evolve as more miles are driven on various roads, but for now, I’d like to share these first impressions.
The reader who sent their thoughts on the Porsche 911 Turbo S and Cayenne GTS Coupe goes by the pen name “Apricot.” They live in the Tohoku region with their wife and two children. They had been loyal to BMW for over 10 years (most recently driving an X6 M) but now own two Porsches.
First Impressions of the 911 Turbo S
The current mileage has just passed 1,000 km. The options include: “glass sunroof, PASM, sport exhaust, front axle lift, lane keep assist, and other safety systems.”
Regarding the 911 Turbo S, the sport exhaust sound is quite loud when turned on, so I’m mindful of neighbors. The PDK gives a distinctly mechanical, gearbox-like feel. The bushings on the suspension arm joints haven’t fully settled yet, so there’s some rattling on typical roads, but I expect it will feel different once cruising on the highway.
I’m looking forward to that.
Porsche’s handling and brakes are exactly as expected—sensations you won’t find in domestic cars. You can steer exactly as you want and brake precisely as you intend.
Fuel economy so far is about 7 to 8 km/l on regular roads and cruising at 100 km/h on the highway. I expect it will improve as the mileage increases.
My favorite points about the 911 Turbo S are the Crayon color and, of course, the bulging rear fenders that truly embody Porsche’s character.
As for options, I’m particular about the PCCB brakes. They produce almost no dust, keep the wheels clean, and are great for peace of mind. Of course, the braking performance is outstanding.
First Impressions of the Cayenne GTS Coupe
The Cayenne’s mileage is currently 2,000 km. Its main options include: “PCCB, air suspension, 22-inch wheels, head-up display, lane keep assist, soft-close doors, and more.”
The V8 engine sound of the Cayenne is unique and very much to my liking. The Tiptronic transmission is smooth and has no quirks. Despite the 22-inch wheels, the ride is surprisingly smooth and firm—likely thanks to the air suspension.
Fuel economy matches the 911 Turbo S, about 7 to 8 km/l on regular roads and cruising at 100 km/h on the highway.
My favorite feature of this Cayenne is the combination of Carmine Red paint and the yellow PCCB calipers.
Why I Bought a Porsche
With all the talk about hybrids and electrification these days… Porsche is a dream car that any car enthusiast wants to experience at least once. Finally, that dream has come true.
Why did I choose the Cayenne GTS Coupe first among Porsches? Because compared to my previous BMW X6 M, it has a similar styling and shares the V8 engine. (Though the X6 M has more horsepower.)
As for the 911 Turbo S, I chose it based on a personal hunch that “this might be the last flat-six boxer engine Porsche produces?” Getting two Porsches at once surprised both my family and friends.
The biggest challenge when buying a Porsche was the sheer number of options. For a Porsche beginner like me, it was hard to decide what was necessary or not, and in the end, choosing options to avoid regrets led to a staggering total price.
Regarding the ordering and delivery timeline:
– Cayenne was ordered in July 2020 and delivered mid-February 2021
– 911 Turbo S was ordered in August 2020 and delivered mid-June 2021
Just looking at these two cars is satisfying (laughs). For a while, I’ll be fully immersed in the Porsche world.
Now that the 911 Turbo S has just passed 1,000 km, I plan to have the first oil change at the Porsche Center tomorrow. Until about 5,000 km, I’ll gradually increase the engine speed and mainly drive on highways to break it in.
Apricot, thank you very much for sharing your valuable firsthand impressions!
