Going to the Annual Porsche Festival “Porsche Sportscar Together Day 2019”!

Porsche Event
On June 15th (Sat) and 16th (Sun) next month, Porsche Sportscar Together Day 2019 will be held at Fuji Speedway. Last year, I attended the Porsche Experience Day 2018, which was a special event celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Porsche 356’s birth, featuring many unique programs—it was a lot of fun.
This year, the event name has changed to Porsche Sportscar Together Day, and Porsche will rent out Fuji Speedway for two full days. It promises to be an event where you can fully experience Porsche, with special programs for past and present 911 owners, children’s activities, and displays of Porsche Classic cars.
Porsche Sportscar Together Day 2019
I looked into what kind of programs will be offered at “Porsche Sportscar Together Day 2019.”
① Unveiling and Test Drives of the New 911 (992)
There are many activities over the two days, but the highlight will likely be the first public unveiling and test drives of the new 911 (992). The new 911, which had its world premiere in Los Angeles in November 2018, will be shown to the public in Japan for the first time at this event.
You can see the new 911 up close through displays, parade lead drives, and grid walks. However, tickets for the paid programs that allow you to drive the new 911 and other Porsche vehicles on the circuit have already sold out.
② Circuit Driving with Your Own Porsche
Among the paid programs is the chance to parade drive on the main circuit of Fuji Speedway in your own Porsche. Last year, we participated in the parade run at Fuji Speedway with our Panamera, which was a truly special experience.
This year, the new 911 (992) will lead the parade, followed by Porsche owners forming a procession. The event is limited to 50 cars per day.
③ PCCJ Rounds 7 & 8
The Porsche Carrera Cup Japan (PCCJ) has been held annually since 2001. I recently went to watch the opening round at Okayama International Circuit. Rounds 7 and 8 will be held at Fuji Speedway during this event.
④ PCCA Races
This year, the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia (PCCA) races will also take place simultaneously. The PCCA is part of the global Porsche Carrera Cup series, focusing on the Asian region, and has been held since 2003.
The intense battles among highly skilled racers from across Asia promise to be very exciting.
⑤ PSCJ Races
The Porsche Sprint Challenge Japan (PSCJ) is a one-day race series for customers, mainly featuring 991.1 and earlier 911 GT3 Cup cars. Round 5 will be held this time, and the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport will be introduced for the first time. I wonder how different the engine sound will be compared to PCCJ.
⑥ Porsche Esports Racing Japan Season 1
It was recently announced that Porsche has finally entered the E-sports arena. The final race of the “Porsche Esports Racing Japan Season 1,” whose qualifiers have already started, will be held live at the venue. The top 10 players who advanced through online qualifiers involving tens of thousands nationwide will compete in the finals.
This promises to be as thrilling a battle as the PCCJ and PCCA races.
⑦ Other Programs
Other programs at the Porsche special booth include lectures on Porsche Connect, displays of Porsche Classic vehicles, and more. Personally, I really enjoyed last year’s program where you could have your photo taken with your beloved car (first-come, first-served on the day), so I definitely want to join again this year.
Participating in Porsche Track Experience
By the way, during “Porsche Sportscar Together Day 2019,” the Porsche Track Experience will also be held at Fuji Speedway. This is a safety and sports driving program for Porsche owners. My husband has participated several times in the past.
For years, my husband has been telling me,
Mina, you really should join! Your driving will improve, and everyday driving will become much smoother.
But I was hesitant because it meant leaving the kids with someone, driving all the way to Fuji on my own, joining the program, and then driving back alone.
However, since our family of four will be attending “Porsche Sportscar Together Day 2019,” I can leave the kids with my husband and participate in the Porsche Track Experience for half a day…
So, I signed up for the Saturday morning “WarmUp+” session on June 15th! Of course, I’ll be participating in the Panamera. I’m already excited and a bit nervous. If anyone else is joining, please say hi on the day (laughs).
