Calculating the Maintenance Costs of a Porsche Panamera Over 2 Years: It Was More Expensive Than I Expected…!

Porsche Maintenance Costs

Panamera: Two Years Since Delivery

The reason I started this Porsche blog was because of the 970 Panamera Edition. It was such an amazing car that every time I drove it, I was thrilled, and I kept sharing my excitement with my husband. Then he said, “No, you telling me every time… I already know how great the Panamera is. Why don’t you just write a blog about it?

After parting ways with the Panamera Edition, the Panamera Turbo came to our home in October 2017. Time flies, and it’s almost been two years since delivery. So today, I decided to recalculate the maintenance costs of the Panamera over these two years.

Calculating Panamera Maintenance Costs

When talking about maintenance costs, parking fees and highway tolls vary greatly depending on your region and household situation, so I decided to focus on other maintenance expenses.

① Fuel Costs

The Panamera has traveled about 25,405 km in these two years. I don’t really feel like I’ve driven that much, but since I often take the Panamera on long trips (to places like Fuji Speedway and Kyushu), the mileage naturally adds up.

The overall fuel efficiency so far is about 7.35 km/l (13.6 l/100 km), which means the Panamera has used 3,456 liters of gasoline to cover 25,405 km. The average nationwide price of premium gasoline over the past year was 153 yen per liter, so the total fuel cost comes to 528,768 yen.

Fuel costs really add up… ( -_- )

② Oil Changes & Inspections

Here’s a breakdown of the Panamera’s oil change (and top-up) and inspection costs:

① Oil change (late October 2017, about 1,500 km, at dealer): 47,558 yen
② Oil top-up (late March 2018, about 6,500 km, DIY): about 4,500 yen (2L)
③ Oil change (June 2018, about 8,400 km, at dealer): 40,818 yen
④ 1-year inspection (October 2018, about 13,246 km, at dealer):
→ Joined the PSMP (Porsche Scheduled Maintenance Plan) 3-year plan: 319,680 yen + tire puncture repair 5,184 yen
⑤ 1-year inspection (September 2019, 24,851 km, at dealer): 0 yen (covered by PSMP)

By the way, the PSMP 3-year plan we joined last year also includes the first vehicle inspection fee.

③ Automobile Tax

The Panamera Turbo falls into the “displacement over 3.5 liters up to 4 liters” category, so the automobile tax is 66,500 yen per year. After two years, that totals 133,000 yen.

Automobile tax is really expensive… or rather, what exactly is it for? ( -_- ) If that tax were used for highway repairs and such, it might make sense, but in reality, its use is unclear.

④ Tire Replacement

The Panamera’s wheel size is 21 inches, and it currently wears these tires:

・Front 275 / 35 ZR 21 (103Y) XL Pirelli P-Zero
・Rear 315 / 30 ZR 21 (105Y) XL Pirelli P-Zero

We haven’t replaced the tires yet, but at the recent 1-year inspection, we were told, “The front tires have little tread left, so it might be best to replace them soon.

My husband recently researched Panamera tires online and found “Michelin Pilot Sport 4” tires priced at about 50,000 yen each… We haven’t decided whether to switch to these yet, but just the tires alone would cost around 200,000 yen.

As usual, we’ll ask Nishinomiya Base for the tire replacement, and the labor cost will probably be around 10,000 yen.

⑤ Car Insurance

We have car insurance with Tokio Marine Nichido, costing about 360,000 yen per year (liability, property damage, personal injury, vehicle insurance: for myself and spouse). That means 720,000 yen over two years.

S-so expensive… (゚д゚)!

When I asked my husband, he said, “Because we bought the Panamera Turbo new, the vehicle insurance coverage amount is insanely high.

Total Maintenance Costs for the Panamera Over 2 Years?

Considering hand washes, parking fees when going out, and other miscellaneous expenses, the actual cost is probably even higher. But adding up the rough maintenance costs calculated so far for these two years…

① Fuel Costs 528,768
② Oil Changes & Inspections 417,740
③ Automobile Tax 133,000
④ Tire Replacement 200,000
⑤ Car Insurance 720,000
Total 1,999,508

Wow—this alone could easily buy a brand-new car… (゚д゚)!

Buying a car is one thing, but maintaining it costs even more. Lately, I’ve been feeling deeply grateful to my husband every day…
