Why I Prefer the Porsche Panamera Over the 911: A Car Fit for a Champion of Life

The 911 Is a Wonderful Car
When you think of Porsche, you think of the 911. I imagine many Porsche fans would agree that “Porsche just means 911.” The first time I test-drove a 911 (991.2) at a dealership, I was amazed by how easy and fun it was to drive. “Wow, this is an incredible car! No wonder it sells so well!” I thought.
Even though I’m not especially confident behind the wheel, driving the 911 was so enjoyable and sporty that I found myself imagining I could take on Suzuka Circuit or Fuji Speedway at full throttle.
When I drove a McLaren 650S once, its brakes felt so heavy that I couldn’t press down hard enough in a split-second, which was a little scary. Compared with supercars like that, the 911 feels like a sports car that’s easy for women to drive.
It’s fantastic on mountain roads and twisty routes, yet comfortable around town, too. It’s nimble enough for a quick trip to the convenience store—or even the daily commute. And of course, it can hit the track. There aren’t many sports cars this versatile.
On Porsche Japan’s official 911 page, I came across this description:
Fill every moment behind the wheel with joy.
Become one with the car and dart nimbly through corner after corner. The joy of controlling exhilarating performance rises to the surface in every driving situation. The 911’s innovative driving dynamics have captivated people across generations—and will exceed your expectations.
That really sums it up. I also think the design is simple, refined, and beautiful.
The Panamera’s Tagline
…And yet, I still prefer the Panamera.
It has a commanding presence, and I love the reassuring heft it has on the road. It moves me every day, and when I see it waiting in the parking lot after work, it radiates such elegance that it almost seems divine.
Then one day, while casually browsing Porsche Japan’s official website, I came across a wonderful tagline that made me think, “Yes! That’s exactly it!”
A car worthy of a champion of life, delivering both the thrilling drive that only a Porsche can offer and exceptional comfort.
“A car worthy of a champion of life”…
Exactly. I think the Panamera is perfectly summed up as a car worthy of a champion of life. But I’m not quite a champion of life yet (haha). So these days, I’m renewing my resolve: I’ll work hard, show my two daughters what it means to live with integrity, keep growing as a person, earn well, and become someone worthy of a Panamera.
