This time, I’m writing about listing my car on Car Baba, but this isn’t a sponsored post or anything—it’s simply my personal experience.

Selling My Suzuki Swift Sport on Car Baba.

My beloved Swift Sport (MT).

I bought it new and put a lot of love into customizing decals and such.

Since delivery in October 2021, I’ve driven it almost every day, saying things like, “It’s so much fun! I hope to drive it for about 10 years!” But my goal to “buy a Porsche with my own money” came sooner than expected, so I decided to sell the Swift Sport. (I wish I could keep two cars, but that’s just not possible for me right now.)

When it came to selling my car, I considered the bulk appraisal method I used when selling my BMW 320i.

That method has a high chance of getting a good price from local dealers.

However, it requires coordinating with multiple dealers and scheduling in advance, which can be quite a hassle

So this time, I decided to try listing it on Car Baba.

Car Baba is a “personal car trading service where you can buy cars cheaply and sell them for a high price, all handled by professionals.”

Because it’s a personal sales service without middlemen like dealerships, auctions, or used car shops, sellers receive the full sale price. Buyers only pay the car price plus a flat matching fee of 38,500 yen, so they get a good deal too.

Also, Car Baba handles all the tedious stuff like photography, listing, and inquiries.

My husband sold his Nissan Note e-POWER NISMO S on Car Baba two years ago and was very satisfied. He even said,

“They take photos and videos, which is a lot of work, yet their fees are so low… I wonder if Car Baba can really keep going, is it okay?”

He was a bit worried (laughs).

That said, I did have some concerns.

Namely, “there’s no guarantee the car will sell quickly.”

With bulk appraisal or trade-in, you usually get a quick offer, but with Car Baba, you don’t know when it will sell after listing, so there’s a chance it might not sell before delivery.

If that happens, I decided I’d accept a slightly lower price and sell it to a dealer or shop, but for now, I wanted to give Car Baba a try.

Car Baba’s Thorough Appraisal.

Car Baba’s headquarters are in Aichi Prefecture, so their representative traveled all the way here by train.

Yesterday, I met the representative at the nearest station, got into the Swift Sport together, and headed to a nearby spot suitable for photos.

Just as we started introducing ourselves inside the car, I found out the representative was actually a reader of this blog…!

He said he’s been reading since 2019 and that “his father loves Porsches and they read it together. When we were communicating beforehand, I thought, ‘Could this be the blogger?’ but I never imagined it was actually you…!” (laughs)

I was so grateful and happy that someone has been reading my blog for so long.

Once we arrived, the photo shoot and interview started right away. (He told me he had three interviews scheduled just for that day.)

He said, “We wear gloves during appraisals to avoid leaving fingerprints or scratches on the car.” That’s impressive.

The appraisal took about an hour, but during that time, we had a fun conversation with questions like “What are your favorite features? Why did you buy this car? With kids, it’s natural to get some scratches here, right?

So it felt like, “Wait, an hour already!?

The representative, Mr. Sugino, used to be a mechanic, so he really valued the owner’s feelings for the car and handled it carefully, which made me happy.

When I asked him to pose like he was appraising the car, he struck this pose and made me laugh

When selling a beloved car, it’s really best to entrust it to someone who loves cars and cares about them.

During the visit, I also chatted with a new graduate employee who joined this year and asked him why he chose Car Baba (laughs). He said:

“The deciding factor was the ‘people.’ The staff here have great personalities, and I thought I could respect everyone. I’m not very knowledgeable about cars yet, but I want to work with these people, contribute properly, and grow quickly.”

I totally get that feeling—it’s wonderful.

Finally, after checking the maintenance records (I had just completed the half-year inspection and oil change the day before), he said, “There are minor scratches, but the condition is good, so don’t worry.” Then after finishing video shooting, the appraisal was complete.

He gave me a ride back to the station, and to my surprise, by evening I already got a message saying “the listing is live.”

Wow, such fast work! Thank you so much for the quick response!
