Nissan Note e-POWER NISMO S Delivered! What Does a Porsche Owner Think!?

Reviews & Test Drives

Final Thoughts on the Nissan Note e-POWER NISMO S

Finally, I asked my husband to write a summary:

The first thing I noticed after buying this car is that many people don’t understand the e-POWER system.

Some think it needs charging, or that it’s just another hybrid that assists the engine. Even among car enthusiasts I know, very few understood it’s a 100% motor-driven car. That surprised me.

The defining feature of this car is the overwhelming torque and lightning-fast response from the motor drive. The NISMO S especially showcases these traits clearly.

Other popular hybrids often have a big mismatch between throttle opening and vehicle speed, causing discomfort for driving enthusiasts. But e-POWER never does that. Driving it is genuinely fun, and the motor’s torque feels exhilarating.

For me, the response and acceleration are completely satisfying. I’ve had several hardcore Porsche-driving friends try it, and they all said, “This is amazing!” “I’m shocked!” “I want one!” (Coincidentally, some Porsche owners considering the same model have already ordered one.)

On the other hand, the suspension is somewhat rough around the edges but well-made for the price. And it’s thrilling and fun to tame the rough ride and handling with skill. However, since it proudly wears the NISMO badge, I also think Nissan could invest more to add refinement and sophistication, like AMG or M models.

As for fuel economy, after about 1000 km of highway, city, commuting, and mountain driving—mostly in ECO mode with occasional S mode use—I averaged around 16.2 km/L without trying to save fuel at all. Coming from a Porsche background, that’s fantastic and almost dreamlike, but if you look at it as an eco car, it might be considered poor. (By the way, I once drove my Panamera Turbo’s 9 km/L commute route very gently in this car and got 22.6 km/L.)

Still, the fun, response, and acceleration you get for 16 km/L fuel economy is extremely valuable. Is it better to drive a fuel-efficient hybrid timidly, or to pay a bit more in fuel costs and enjoy the driving experience?

At least, the Note e-POWER NISMO S is for those who want the latter. That’s the kind of car it is.
