⑤ Fuel Economy, Maintenance, and Repairs

Fuel economy depends on how you drive, but I get around 12–13 km/L on the highway and about 10 km/L in the intercity driving around where I live. As for maintenance, you can’t even see the engine, and the car seems designed to discourage owners from working on it themselves. I leave everything to the dealership.

I haven’t had any repairs so far, but the cost of replacing items such as the PCCB brakes is a concern.

⑥ Family and Other People’s Reactions

There was a period when my wife drove the 911 most of the time. She said, “It goes where you want it to, and you can drive it exactly as you intend. People often give way, too, so it’s easy and relaxing to drive.”

I live in rural Northern Kanto, where you don’t see many 911s. When I stop at a convenience store, children and high school students often get excited, and people at highway rest areas sometimes take a long, close look. I also get approached by people who are even more passionate about Porsche than I am, and I always learn something from them.

⑦ Favorite Things About the Car

I love everything about it, but if I had to pick one thing, it would be the interior that’s unique to the Turbo S Exclusive. The dotted lines on the headliner and seats echo the exterior design, while the gold stitching adds a vivid accent and brings the whole cabin together.

I also love reclining the seat, relaxing with my favorite music, and gazing up at the headliner.

5) Must-Have Options for My Next Porsche

I think it comes down to your budget. I considered the carbon-fiber wheels, too, but I need winter tires, so I gave up on them.

If I had to pick something… maybe that it’s almost too ordinary?

7) The Verdict

It’s “the very best kind of ordinary.” You can drive it anywhere, anytime. You can even recline the seat and relax in it—it’s a bit like a magic carpet.

8) What Does Porsche Mean to You?

I’ve thought about this question a lot. There’s so much to consider: performance, including deceleration; acceleration and jerk; handling; engineering; silhouette; concept; history—the list goes on.

When I think about the Porsche brand I’ve known since childhood, and ask myself, “What is it about this car that I love? Why do I drive it?” I end up wondering, “What is a car—or a sports car—in the first place? And what does it mean to love something?” I never seem to arrive at a clear answer.

For now, though, I’ve landed on this: “A Porsche is a car you don’t need to think twice about.”

If you go to a Porsche dealership, you know you’ll find a great car. There’s no need for an amateur like me to agonize over “this or that” or compare it with everything else. The profound spirit behind the car, the strength of the conviction running through it, and the experience of seeing and driving what Porsche has brought to life—all of that leaves me speechless.

My wife drives it, too, and she likes it. But when I get carried away talking about it, she starts yawning. (Laughs.)

I usually keep it in the tower parking garage at my apartment building, so I only take it out for a short drive now and then. But I carry the key with me everywhere. Just having it with me is good for my mental health.
